The killswitch thing scares me because if the phone is capable of being completely deactivated remotely… who says your phone company or some other link in the chain related to the phone itself is not able to also deactivate it… or be required to deactivate it by force or punishment?

Or activate it, and have it report your location, play your audio, etc. I’ve had serious battery issues with my phone that have just “gone away” and one of the possibilities I have to consider plausible is they were using it to surveil me. I hope it was as boring for them as it was annoying for me.

If they can do a “smart phone kill switch” they can do a “smart gun kill switch.”
