If you’re gonna call it a Scout, it better be in a heavier centerfire round than .223, preferably .308 (Or Jeff Cooper will spin in his grave).
What this admittedly wonderful rifle is, is a good “truck gun,” suitable for varmints or self defense, but not a one-gun setup for every need, as it is too small for deer or larger game.
The leather wrap on the lever is a good idea. The action is stiff because of the rack and pinion design and the way the bolt locking lugs engage. Not really a fast action, and it does work on the back of your fingers. Gloves help, of course.
I picked up a BLR in .30-06 last year. While it’s not a takedown model it certainly handles quickly and puts hits on target. It’s not a Model 94, but it gives you a lot more options with ammo selection than the .30-30. So far I’ve worked it out as far as 300 yards but it feels like it could stretch to twice that. Maybe I’ll find out in Colorado next month.

Tacticool lever rifle. Kind of overkill when most situations occur at distances of less than 15 feet.

Sweet little rifle, though.
