Admitting to committing crimes on the internet is stupid
Via NJT, it looks like Cracked’s Harmon Leon may have broken the law and then penned a confession on a popular website.
The ammo one likely wasn’t illegal since it was rifle ammo.
I’m sure, as when this has happened in the past, that he’ll come out and say it didn’t really go down like that.

It appears as though Mr Leon fell into a classic anti-gun journalism trap: He doesn’t appear to have actually completed any of these transactions. If he had, he would have discovered that the sellers would only ship to an FFL who would have done a background check.
The guy that offered to ship to his house was an obvious scammer. Once you send money via western union its GONE and there’s no way to get it back.
And you’re right about the AP ammo. He’s got a fundamental misunderstanding of the law. The reason the guy couldn’t ship to new york is because of the SAFE act, not because it was AP.

And he used quite a few anti-gun BS ‘stats’ and a few anti-gun talking points. Don’t expect him to ever be arrested for this.

In his first example he claims that private sales are largely unregulated. Then he used the example of a man offering to sell a handgun in PA to anyone who will meet him with cash.
It’s currently illegal in PA to sell any handgun without going through a FFL. If you want to sell a privately owned handgun, your buyer must meet you at an FFL and fill out a 4473. Yet another example of gun grabbers getting what they want and it still not changing the behavior of criminals.

Did he actually complete any deals? Doesn’t look like it…

I started to read the article but then I realized he was either lying or committing multiple felonies, so I didn’t finish it. I’ve spent way too much of my life listening to liars and felons.

Cracked used to be funny, now it’s just a place for limp wristed fancy lads to rant about how messed up America is. Meh, don’t need to waste my time with unfunny drivel from idiot children living in basements.

There’s also that he lives in New York.
Which means he can’t even do a face to face transfer.
What’s funny is that when I pointed out that if he found people willing to ship to him without an FFL that the ATF would be interested in said sellers…
…several commenters on Cracked took umbrage on that.
Then again when I pointed out the guy was either a liar (as he didn’t acutally get any guns) or a felon… the response was “of course he didn’t spend thousands on a gun”.
But again the Antis confuse something being illegal with it being impossible. This guy says he was able to get guns over the internet (gasp! scary future!) thus it must have been some “loophole” that needs some new law to fix!

I like how he’s so breathlessly shocked that you can buy a gun in person, in state from someone (at least, in his example, in PA, where he does not live).
Has he never heard of a gun show, or Nickel Ads?
(And that “something I planned!” must imply “some nefarious act, probably a mass shooting”, rather than … “going out to a range to shoot with someone from out of town”.
I guess you might be able to infer that if you knew absolutely nothing about guns or gun owners or gun culture and did know only “people use guns for bad stuff!”.
This is low-quality reporting, for Cracked, which is usually surprisingly good.)

Cracked used to be like Reason.com, only intentionally funny. What happened? They used to have a pretty strong libertarian bent to their articles that made it worthwhile to read.

David Wong and the SJWs happened, from what I’ve heard. Prog with an agenda, destroyed something entertaining, again.
