Well, I wouldn’t do that
One of our instructors attended a course last weekend in Oklahoma. One of the drills entailed unloading your gun then pointing it at one of the class instructors and dry firing. This was to get you used to pointing your gun at a real person.

Uh, having had to point a Gun at a Real Person a few times, I don’t think it’s healthy to try and “Get used to it.”

I guess they were all out of Pop Tarts?

My first CHL class had a volunteer with a rubber knife and a teacher with a rubber gun explain Tueller distance to the class.
Why not just use a rubber gun for this drill?

Gotta get used to using ‘Big Derp’ rules if you’re going to be an operating operator.
Has anyone from their insurance company has ever taken this class?

Yep, done it, under very controlled conditions, and it was valuable. Triple & redundant checks. I trusted the instructors and the students.
(No mag in the gun, though; that’s stupid.)
I don’t know about these guys in the article or what they were doing, but I don’t think hysteria is the right response to the very *idea* of such an exercise.

It ain’t hysterical to say a “training exercise” is stupid and useless, the yootoob is full of ’em, none any stupider and uselesser than this one.

The worst idea I’ve ever heard of. All of those instructors should be fired.
October 14th, 2014 at 9:51 pm
It’s ok, as long as it’s only at the instructor according to his instruction. Can’t save every fool.

Jon, its not THE worst. There is a pretty infamous firearms instructor that would have students stand between targets while other students shot the targets “so they’d know what it was like to be shot at.”
October 15th, 2014 at 9:26 am
I was taught that way and it made me very uncomfortable at the time. The instructor said it was always harder to get the safe students to do it than the yahoos.
I never used that technique with anyone I instructed.

The Oklahoma company may also be breaking the law, according to this page: http://www.nraila.org/gun-laws/state-laws/oklahoma.aspx
Says under the “Miscellanous” section: “Except for an act of self-defense, it is unlawful to point any firearm, whether loaded or not, at any other person.”

Not unless the weapon and target are equipped and trained in the use with MILES gear.

So from standing besides targets while other students shoot to unloading and pointing guns at others and pulling the trigger…
SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE CAUSE OF THIS STUPIDITY.
Just like giving a 8 year old a UZI and letting them rip was gross negligence, so is this activity above.
Repeat… SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE.. sooner or later.
