These sorts of opinion/propaganda articles always seem to have the comments sections closed.

I saw a comment section before NYTimes said I had reached my limit on articles for the month. Couldn’t access it. Saw a couple of hundred comments listed.

Actually, especially for New York, I think it was a decent article until he wrote this crap:
“and attempting to fill their ranks with people who have known much more recently what tyranny really looks like.”

Nothing prevents ANYONE from becoming a member of the NRA. It is not the NRA’s job to drag people to the convention against their will. If they don’t want to join…that’s on them.

It would be interesting if you could demonstrate gun control laws are stricter on average where black people live. They could be struck down on the basis of disparate impact.

I thought the article was spot on. Really, really good. The fact that it comes from the NYT is a bonus.

One might infer that the author was accusing the NRA of being racist, but his description of NRA even attendees in probably spot on as well.

Sure; the NRA does NOT discriminate, or screen members, but its members are overwhelmingly white. Why? There are several possible reasons, the main one being, I believe, that most blacks in America have been inexplicably roped into Progressivism (much to their undoing) and Progressives hate the NRA.

So I believe the author was making the point that, rather than merely welcoming all comers with open arms, the NRA should be doing some targeted outreach in the form of history education in the predominantly black communities. The public schools in most of those areas are certainly NOT going to tell the whole truth about Fredrick Douglas, D. Martin Luther King Jr., or Jim Crow, or the fact that the KKK were all Democrats and loved by Progressive champions, Woodrow Wilson and Margret Sanger.

The comments are fascinating in their detachment from reality–or even just basic reading comprehension.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
