The election and guns

How gun rights fared.

Second amendment wins. Well, except in WA. Expect Bloomy to target liberal enclaves.

Where Bloomberg’s money went.

Huge win for gun rights in Alabama. Have they reformed their odd CCW system yet?

    Um,

The Second Amendment did NOT win in CT.

  2. Deaf Smith Says:

Alabama should have wrote their Constitution:

    (a) Every citizen has a fundamental right to bear arms, including the same kind of arms the police and guard units have, in defense of himself or herself and the state. And if the state becomes tyrannical they can use those arms to TAKE IT BACK.

See, it sounds so much better!

  3. DBM Says:

I wouldn’t call the AL amendments a win. The constitution now says that laws restricting rights have to meet “strict scrutiny”. Before, there were no provisions for any restrictions whatsoever.

  4. Backwoods Engineer Says:

DBM, are you one of those Bama Carry people who inexplicably campaigned against the ballot measure?

Yes, Alabama reformed their CCW, effective August 2013. It’s now effectively a “shall issue” system, because there is recourse in law for those who are denied permits. IANAL, but I am an informed citizen and advocate of the RKBA.

  5. aerodawg Says:

Saying there were previously no provisions for restrictions under the AL constitution is quite simply false. The way law works is that anything not prohibited is allowed and there was not blanket prohibition on the legislature doing anything with respect to firearms law. That’s how they’re able to have laws against “felon in possession” on the books and even things like the recently deceased SBR/SBS restrictions.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
