As Cargosquid and Glenn mentioned, living of the government and not attending to the market means you are going to be in trouble. Just think how much money they would have if they actually innovated. They have been riding their reputation way too long.
KM: They lost money during WW2.
They are consistent. Seems management always came from the same mold. Now there is something that Colt should have broken a lonnggg time ago…
I wonder if the opposite is true. If Colt lost money by concentrating on gov’t contracts, what would be the profit margin if all gun companies IGNORED government contracts?
Imagine the butt hurt if CA, NY, NJ, and other similar states could not get contracts for LEO. Or ammo.
Hmmm overpriced,ar platform that doesn’t fit together with others without adapters, not much choices to choose from and focused on one avenue of main revenue (military)..survival of the fittest …what’s so great bout colt anyways besides the woodsman and the Python …which can’t be made to same quality anyways because of price point …bye bye colt
The problem with Colt is that they aren’t making what people want.
Series 70 1911 pistols, and more factory short-barreled rifles, not to mention revolvers that spin the right way, are about the only things they make that I want.

This is the 2nd time they will have gone under. Wonder if they have a 3rd chance left.

Bad parenting and government contracts.
I bet GE is getting paid regularly on their contracts.

Just think how much money they’d have if they had concentrated on the civilian market instead.

Trading on their name for way too long.
Colt hasn’t made anything I want to own since the 70’s.

‘delays in payment for government contracts’….well there ya go.

Colt’s is having financial trouble after the biggest 6 year gun buying frenzy ever seen?
Wow…that’s some great management quality on display.
