Pew pew pew poll
The biggest shift toward the pro gun side came from blacks:
The shift was even more substantial among African-Americans, going from 29 percent in early 2013 to 54 percent now (though with a margin of error of almost 10 percent due to a small sample size).

Part of the reasoning of the 1857 Dred Scot SCOTUS decision keeping slavery of black people legal was that IF they were persons under the Constitution, then they would be free to go armed everywhere they went. Thus did Chief Justice Roger Taney opine rightly applying the 2nd Amendment. Today’s “civil rights leaders” love to hearken back to slavery, but not to its high court reasoning because they too hold the same opinion.

The Progressives (and the Party of the KKK, racist Woodrow Wilson and Eugenicist Margaret Sanger) had a huge problem in the 1960s, when black civil rights advocates started joining the NRA and arming themselves. It still amazes me that the Democrats managed to co-opt the civil rights movement and turn it against black American interests, but they sure did. Maybe there’s a new awakening in the works. I don’t know.

True Lyle, one of the pretexts for the 1968 gun control law was that the original Black Panthers began to exercise their legitimate constitutional rights and open carry M-1 rifles. Then the “law and order ” conservatives (like then CA Gov Reagan) along with LBJ in Washington joined in in unconstitutional gun control. What goes around, comes around.
