Y’know, 10 isn’t for everyone. Some of us like it, some of us really like it, some of us appreciate the physics, and a few of us long for the 10 magnum (and, yes, Starline still has 10MM magnum brass, if you can find something that chambers it).
I think we’re seeing three things at play. 9mm is becoming more popular and overtaking .40 S&W. Likewise, there’s a return in popularity of magnum calibers and “bear guns.” Finally, in spite of the trend towards magnum calibers, it’s becoming more and more of a semi-auto world.
So, .40 is no longer the “sensible replacement” for 10mm. If you’re going to carry for personal defense, you carry 9mm, not .40.
If you’re stepping into magnums, 10mm starts making sense, and is probably a better wilderness or bear caliber than .357, and certainly is easier to shoot than .44.
Finally, it’s a semi-auto cartridge that can be shot in far more sensible platforms than a lot of the other big semi-autos cartridges, with good ammo capacity in single and double stacks… and it isn’t (excepting the 610) a revolver cartridge.
If Glock, Sig, Colt, STI, or other companies that produce factory 10mms are smart about it, they may be able to rebrand the 10mm a the outdoorsman’s sidearm caliber, and the magnum alternative for the semi-auto shooter who wants to “step up” from 9mm.
9mm is less expensive for practice than anything but .22LR, which in my region is still not sold in bulk except at ridiculously high prices. So it has ammo availability and lower price going for it, which is nice.
10mm is a fine round. So is .41 Magnum for revolvers. May the 10mm remain more popular in semiauto handguns than the .41 Mag in wheelguns.
I want to know where the .41 Mag Coonan got to. That was promised many years ago. The 7.5″ Redhawk is a bit much for ccw, at least in the lower 48.
Hmmm, wonder if I could talk my friend out of his Colt Delta Elite? He’s been making noises about converting to Glocks, from his 1911’s.

Perhaps the 10 is finally coming into its own. The 40 short and weak really pissed on the 10 parade but then not everyone can handle a 10mm LOL..

Don’t tell anybody, but I was actually giving half-serious thought to a used Glock 29 this past weekend… o.O

I read “Executive Orders” at a very impressionable age.
I’ve been a 10mm fan since before I could legally drive.
