.300BLK Upper

From Bison Armory*, I have one of these on the way:

300 BLK Upper 2

10.5 inch barrel. Good for a suppressor.

* Full disclosure, I’m a very, very, very minor stakeholder in Bison Armory.

How well does that compensator work? I’ve looked at those for my 6.8

  3. aerodawg Says:

Which now that I look again the chances of me buying one is zero since shipping is 15 damn dollars for something that can fit in an envelope. I don’t mind reasonable shipping charges but that’s ridiculous.

300 is readily available in subsonic. Is 6.8? We’ve been messing around with my son’s 6.5 Grendel, and I’m not aware of subsonics for that. He’s going for distance, though, and I’m trying to become the scary part of the night.

  5. aerodawg Says:

6.8 wasn’t developed with suppressed use in mind so no not really a lot of subsonic available.

  6. HL Says:

The thing that makes 300 blackout/whisper special is that from the same AR-15, with no changes, you can run full power “AK-47 type” loads and sub sonic loads and it still cycles.

You can even alternate them in the magazine. There are very few platforms capable of that.

I don’t think any company does factory sub sonic loads for 6.8 or 6.5, but you could hand load it. It would be MEGA hard to get a semi auto to cycle on them though.

    Lol, 6.8…. DEAD.

If not dead, certainly dying. It was very promising once, but you get longer range with 6.5 Grendel, and better versatility/similar terminal ballistics with 300 Blackout, and with the proliferation of low-priced AR-10’s now…well, 308 kinda shits on it.

  9. Mr Evilwrench Says:

I got all the reloading stuff for the 300 and the 6.5, so we’ll have what we need, even if the calibers die.

  10. SPQR Says:

Hmmm, I am tempted to get one of their .300 carbine length uppers.

The comp is not terribly effective as a compensator, but it hides flash about like an A2, and the blast goes out the front, so it works well for an SBR.

6.8 subsonic through one of our BSP barrels with 200 grain Woodleigh or Hawks Custom bullets cycle just fine, with the same CARBINE length gas port as the full power 6.8. We’re planning to have factory 6.8 subsonic available by the end of the year, hopefully sooner. This does require 1:7 twist though, which handles the full power 85-120 grain bullets just fine as well.

You can get the comp direct from Black River Tactical for a lot less. It’s difficult for us to keep those in stock for builds so we don’t really like to sell them individually as it holds up bigger orders, and shipping small parts is time consuming since we don’t have a dedicated shipping department.

Well, I use it suppressed all the time for hunting and range use. It wasn’t designed with sneaky use I guess, but silencers are for everyone and everything mostly as hearing protection.

That is a pleasant surprise! Does the lower require an “other than standard” buffer/spring? What barrel lengths have you had success with? Can you get it down to a ~9 inches? I suspect a 200 grain .270 bullet has a pretty good BC.

  13. ben Says:

16″, 11.5″, and 8.5″ all work with a silencer. The 16″ and 8.5″ also work without a silencer. The 11.5″ almost does but won’t kick back on the lady round without a silencer.

Standard carbine spring and buffer. With an adjustable gas block, we open up the port a smidge for a little more versatility.

Oh the fun of autocorrect without proofreading 😛

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
