It’s happening…. Again! Already. We keep threatening to finally abandon them and go full bore third party. Will this be the time? I hope not: way too much is at stake for the Republican Party to mess this up yet again.
I’ve long since abandoned them in the Presidential general elections because the last several candidates since they do NOTHING to get my vote. The Constitution Party candidate and the Libertarian Party candidates compete for my vote, so one of them gets it. IF and when a Republican campaigns on ” the guarantee of a republican form of government, (Article IV, Section 4), ALL of the Bill of Rights and obeying their delegated powers, THEN they will get my vote. So far, Rand Paul seems to be competing for my vote.
“We need a Tsugg who’ll appeal to a broad spectrum of voters! A good scimitarman, for beating down opposition inside the party, a handy club-wielder to bring in the Independents, a cool hand with a dirk, for committee infighting . . .”
Well it IS their job, so yes. That is their role and they play it well. If they “lose” the next election, they win because a Progressive will be in office. If they “win” the next election, they win because a Progressive will be in office.
Make nice with the good cop, or cave to the bad cop; it doesn’t matter. You’re going to the same place either way.
” IF and when a Republican campaigns on ” the guarantee of a republican form of government, (Article IV, Section 4)”
Tell ya what, I will stand right beside you and throw up signs screaming “IF ITS NOT IN THE Bill of Rights THEN ITS BAD LAW”
… well just as soon as you give up your SSN/Medicare Tax breaks, and interstates etc…
I will agree that we need to “real conservatives” JUST AS SOON as you agree to act like one. After All, an elected official is a reflection of his constituents.
Personally I think some expansion of federal powers is kinda nice to have, but hey I will give up all them social services if you will…. then again, my generation had to plan for a life with SSN being completely bankrupt …. do some of you older folks might want to consider that a bit…
Do we need tea party folks and other hard right groups … YES!!!
But lets be really blunt, they need us ALOT more than we need them. Just wish some of them would grow up already.
Sadly I had to unsub from the rand paul newsletter, so many email begging for more money it felt like a pyramid scheme.
@ Justaguy: FYI, the interstate highway system is well within the designated powers of the federal government, per Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution:
The Congress shall have Power […] To establish Post Offices and post Roads
I suspect a lot of mail travels on the interstates.

There could be a hundred GOP candidates, or two. Jeb will be thrust upon us either way, and Liawatha will be President. The log will soon roll over…

Lindsey Graham could well be the first female president.
