When I was an FFL in FL (’78-’05) a Colt’s in .38 Super might as well have been solid gold for the price it would bring from any well-heeled Mex with the proper papers, so it’s only natural that they would go ahead and make it literally so I guess.
Still, those Rolie Prez watches are worth a brace of glitzy pistols, at 20-30K per. The dope honchos problem wasn’t how to afford such ostentation, but how to get enough of it to burn all those excess dirty dollars.
And now they’re under the watchful (heh) eye of MexGov? You know that junk was just a drop in the bucket payoff…talk about dirty.
In Mexico, .45 and 9mm are considered military calibers and their possession is super-illegaler. The .38 Super has always been popular there for that reason. Even where that’s not a concern (like if you’re a cartelista or if you’re in the U.S.), the .38 Super is popular with Mexicans. Colt (I think; it could have been someone else) at one time made a Commander or Officer-sized (can’t remember which, I only saw one about 20 years ago) .38 Super called El Capitan.
Although I saw none that were gold plated or diamond encrusted, when we visited the Texas Ranger Museum in 2001, we saw a bunch of fancy, decked out pistols, most being M1911s. They were so heavily engraved, (think: relief carved!) that another visitor remarked that there was no way those were M1911 military pistols. He actually didn’t recognize them as such!
As I know I am not an EXPERT in ballistic efficiency, ‘nor a true gunfighter. I will say this, do not laugh at .38 Super. It is STILL a serious hole in your center of mass. I HATE those.

That site has a droid-adverse popup that won’t let me in. Malware.

Yep, flash and cash… It used to be spurs and silver Conchos on the gunbelt and hat.

I wouldn’t be too ashamed to carry such weapons. Wear a suit and tie to work everyday and carry it like an accessory.

Am I repeating myself?

Yup.

Anyone notice that the 1911 mags aren’t .45s? 9mm or .38 Super.

“A museum in Mexico City has dozens of seized paraphilia on display.”
They have dozens of seized psychological tendencies to deviant sexual practices?
Someone loves letting spell check be their editor, too.
