In DC, unclear on the concept of carry permits

Stephen Gutowski applied for one citing threats he had received. He went through the process, got printed, and paid the money. He was denied because, despite being threatened and able to show that, he was unable to show he had good reason to fear for his safety. Heck, doesn’t living in DC qualify as having a good reason to fear for your safety?

DC was originally formed as a federal enclave from land donated by Virginia and Maryland, shaped as a square. Virginia took Arlington back, which is why the top of DC’s map is square, but the bottom of DC follows the river.

The 23rd amendment should be repealed, and Maryland should take back the rest of DC. The DC city council should be subrogated to Maryland’s general assembly. There is no longer any good reason for Congress to be directly involved with managing DC. As bad as Maryland’s politics are, it would be better for the people of DC.

[In an ideal world, Arlington and Alexandria would go along with DC and join Maryland; while western Maryland and the eastern shore got to join Virginia.]

And Emily Miller has heard back on her application, too, according to her Twitter feed. Not sure what the decision was, right now she’s teasing it for the 10:30 pm news broadcast.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
