Ghost guns

I thought they were those guns that loon in Cali said were made by computers. But it turns out they’re also guns without serial numbers. Narrative!

  1. The Neon Madman Says:

I believe that prior to 1968, there was no requirement that guns have serial numbers.

  2. rickn8or Says:

Beating the drum for banning un-serialized guns and oh-by-the-way universal registration.
    (Because that’s always worked before.)

  3. The Duck Says:

Funny they want the people making ghost guns to put a serial number on them. Or at least tried, pretty dumb, http://www.kcra.com/news/ghost-guns-cause-concern-especially-in-stockton/31575460

  4. rickn8or Says:

Actually they’re “Machine guns with no serial numbers made by gang-member’s computers.”

“The governor vetoed a bill that would have prevented it and made everything all sparkly unicorns and tasty skittles, but we’re gonna try to pass it again.”

California TV news coverage is pretty entertaining. Not informative, but entertaining.

  5. Jay Hafemeister Says:

How can a “news” agency use the term “ghost gun” and even pretend to be a non-biased deliverer of facts.

  6. Andrew Says:

I had two Stevens shotguns made prior to 1968. Neither had anything more than a model number, no Serial.

They were not machine guns, though…just two shots. Two triggers, so you could fire them both at once…but still not a machine gun.

  7. Sigivald Says:

I bet many guns sold to felons have no serial numbers.

And especially black market machine guns.

I just don’t think they’re actually “ghost guns’ in the sense used lately of “guns made by home CNC or 3D printing”.

I think most of ’em had serial numbers before someone “fixed” that with a grinder or welder.

  8. Mr Evilwrench Says:

How about the ones (I’ve heard about) that are sold in F2F transactions without the buyer’s name getting attached, serial number or not? Are those ghosts as well, or just lost in the wilderness?

  9. rickn8or Says:

Mr. Evilwrench, those sales are the symptoms of a healthy society.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
