They do this with F150s too
That cool engine sound in your mustang is fake. As technology gets better and engines get quieter, people apparently miss engine sounds. Now, if we could get the .gov out of the engine business . . .

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

I want to put a set of new mufflers on my 2011 Mustang because I can’t hear it unless I’ve got the accelerator pressed down most of the way to the floor – and that means $tupid Fa$t, RFN. I understand Ford put a duct from the engine bay into the cabin to help with the “engine sound” thing, but really, these things are pretty quiet.

BMW’s been doing this for quite a while. My 98 Z3 had a duct from the air intake into the interior. That straight 6 had a glorious engine sound.

One of the many reasons I purchased a Bullitt – Ford actually spent time in making the exhaust sound right/nice.

F-150…what now? It took a while for an automotive Luddite like me to come around to the twin-turbo ecoboost v-6 in spite of it producing more power and pull than their v-8 while pulling down 20+ mpg, but I’ve driven it 3 yrs. and 30k miles, and it is awesome.
And talk about sound, there is no VROOM either real or piped in, but there is a fairly cool turbo whine/whistle that I’ve always admired on the oil-burners, though much more subdued. So if it did have the soundtrack, I’d find a way to kill it. Fake orgasms from cars or wimminz would be a turnoff for me.
Oh, and Unc? Gov is okay in your clock but not under your hood? Huh…’nother fair-weather wookie?

Thirty years ago I subbed Hot Rod mag, and in the Q&A column a (presumably) young guy wrote in asking for advice for installing speakers in the grill of his six cylinder car to make it sound like a V8. He was soundly (no pun intended) humiliated.
Looks like he found a job at FoMoCo.

My 7.3L powerstroke diesel F250 sounds glorious. You know, once it’s warm. When it’s cold it sounds like a duffle bag full of hammers falling down an infinite staircase.

for a guy who wants my next car to be as quiet as possible, this seems ridiculous to me. unless you can turn it off, that is.

I like quiet cars.
My Volvo is quiet.
And fast.
