Treat all guns as if they are loaded

Even a 40mm cannon:

The firearms collector was unloading a cannon from the tray of his ute when it accidentally discharged and fatally struck him at his home in Mahuta, west of Dargaville, yesterday.

Yikes.

I suspect it was some kind of muzzle loader.

See the guy said ‘about’ 40mm diameter bore. And being able unload it from the back of his SUV…. It sure wasn’t a Bofer.

Maybe a 37mm old WW2 if it was a cartridge gun.

Anywho… one makes sure it’s unloaded before putting ones anatomy in front of the barrel.

It is in New Zealand, for those curious.

Interesting that at the end of the article they try to be specific about the cannon, and note that the diameter was 40mm but that the length of the cannon was not known at the time of the article.

Here in the USA, our media would just call it a ‘Automatic Glock AK-47 Cop Killer’ and be done with the description.

Sorry to hear about it. Sounds like a good guy, and my thoughts are with his family.

Ow. I had no bloddy idea what “the tray of a ute” might be, so I looked it up. Wiki says the Ute are an indigenous people of the Great Basin, now living primarily in Utah and Coloraqdo. Glad I totally understand now.

  4. MAJMike Says:

In ANZAC land, a “ute” is an SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle). Apparently a “tray” is the cargo area.

It’s unusual, but he’s not any deader than he would be if he had shot himself with a 9mm.

  6. JTC Says:

ASM826, yeah I was going to edit Unc’s “Even a 40mm cannon” to “Especially a 40mm cannon”, but I wouldn’t want to soften the hard and fast Rule One.

And you’re right of course, he’s not any deader. Messier maybe. Damn.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
