I can see banning recording devices from the booth (union rep: record yourself casting the right votes for a cash bonus) but we need to be able to document fraud and law violations at the actual polling location.
What Mischief said – there are good reasons for a limited ban in the booth (though also reasons against, especially if you’re using an electronic voting machine; it’d be nice to document a misvote*).
(* That said, I work with touchscreen systems professionally, and I’d be shocked if any of the reported ones were nefarious rather than “nobody bothered to recalibrate the stupid screen”.)

There’s at least some places that ban taking pictures in the voting booth specifically as a measure to prevent vote-selling.
