Never happen or even work
But I like the sentiment of suing ATF for financial loss because of wait times for NFA. What needs to happen is congress should pass a law that requires approval in some number of days. Of course, since ATF basically does a glorified NICS check, it should happen same day.

Exactly. If Congress isn’t going to move suppressors et al to Title 1 they need to dictate that no addl agent slots will be funded except on a two or three to one increase in processing staff, or dictate a staff adjustment or something.
If they are going o exist at all, the ATFE remains primarily a revenue collection agency. That job, expeditiously processing tax stamps and thus making the government money $200 at a time for suppressors and SBR/SBS, should be the priority. It should be a pretty easy soundbite sell.

There is a case going through the federal courts which could make this happen. It just won in district court and is headed to appeals.

Nuts. I just cancelled a Form 4 that had been pending/error status for 18 months. Count me in if there’s a lawsuit. ATF couldn’t tell me why. I think it’s because they suck at life.

As for the “glorified NICS check”, does anyone know what they actually do? Has someone tried FOIAing a training manual, or has a former processor sat down and explained to some media what they do while processing a F1/F9?
I have a feeling that they do something more than “just” a NICS check, for no reason other than to justify their existence, but other than nitpick the grammar of my Trust, I really can’t think of what.

The GOP controlled Congress could add a deadline in a simple little amendment tacked onto a funding bill that ‘must pass’.
But they won’t, because then they figure we’d be less angry and therefore less inclined to vote in 2016. Or something.
We’re getting played, y’all.
