Southern Precision Tooling’s Church Mouse: the quietest 22LR suppressor I’ve ever heard

Mentioned I wanted to move the sights on the M&P CORE. Asked a local friend if he knew anyone who did that and he did. He met me at Southern Precision Tooling and I spoke with the guys there about what to do. Then, my friend mentioned their coming line of suppressors. I didn’t realize a manufacturer of quality suppressors was less than a mile from one of my job sites. The suppressor got its name from a local who heard it and said that’s about as loud as a church mouse’s fart. Here it is:

It’s heavier than my Gemtech but it’s not heavy. It doesn’t affect rifle weight at all and on a handgun, it’s no different than any other suppresor. But holding it in your hand, you know it’s heavier. Stainless steel construction with aluminum baffles.

Unlike most other 22LR suppressors, this one can be disassembled for cleaning.

Here’s the logo:

And here’s a video I took of them shooting it:

That thing was quiet! Production in a month or two and MSRP of around $275.

Collecting data on the race of gun owners

A bill would prohibit that:

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) could no longer collect racial data for gun transactions under new legislation in the House.

Gun dealers are currently required to report information about the race and ethnicity of people who purchase firearms. The ATF has been collecting this information for several years, though the agency has maintained it never compiled it in any database.

Good:

An appeals court ruled Tuesday that Wal-Mart investors don’t have a right to try to stop the company from selling rifles or any other product those shareholders may think is socially destructive.

MG Arms Behemoth

Saw this at MG Arms‘ booth booth. It’s a .50 cal. But check out that paint job. It looks like it’s made of wood. Their other guns had really awesome looking paint too. Talked to the lady who does the painting and she’ll totally paint one for you. Also, they were some of the nicest people I’ve ever met.

IWI Tavor with magazine release where it should be

I’ve always had a thing for the Tavor. But never really wanted to get one because it’s manual of arms is really different from an AR-15. And I always thought the lack of something under the trigger was disconcerting. But I stopped by IWI’s booth. Here’s some Tavors:

Here’s the Tavor’s innards:

And more innards:

And here’s one with the magazine release where it’s supposed to fucking be:

I talked to the rep and asked specifically about the lack of some sort of protection under the trigger. He said that it was because the Israeli folks wanted it to protect their hands. Seems they hit the deck a lot. He also went over how they trained and that made the grip configuration make sense.

“grass roots”

So, Moms Demand Action decided to protest the NRA convention. They claimed they’d have 400 people, compared to NRA’s just south of 80K. Well, they didn’t get much action:

The police officers, on the other hand, were trying to make sure they stayed away from the camera while keeping an eye out for the group. We overheard one officer telling the other he didn’t want to be in any camera shots since he didn’t want to really been seen with their cause. Instead, they started talking about gun shows on tv.

And had to use some trick photography for their photo op to make it look like people actually showed up.

The press didn’t even notice.

Umarex BB guns

I’ve never been to a show and said to someone “Shut up and take my money”. Until now. Strolling through the NRA AM show floor, I saw the Umarex booth. I vaguely remembered that they made a MP5 clone in 22LR, that it kind of sucked and they got sued over it. But I saw handguns. Really nice looking handguns. And I saw this:

20150411_140851

It’s a Colt Peacemaker that shoots BBs. And it felt awesome. It’s the same weight and feel as an actual gun. You even eject the shells and load the BBs in the rear of them to insert into the cylinder:

I told the rep there that I would take one right now. Unfortunately, they weren’t selling them at the show. I asked them why, since they weren’t firearms and the guy responded with he wasn’t sure why. My guess is the guns looked real enough that someone thought it wasn’t a good idea, especially since they make other BB guns that really look and feel like actual guns. Here’s their promo video for it:

Seems they’ve figured out licensing and making really nice BB gun clones. They had other offerings that were pretty damn cool as well:

Brilliant: Put your rear sight in front of the red dot sight

I was kicking around the NRA show floor when, at the Trijicon booth, I saw this Zev custom Glock:

20150411_170100

And I thought “That sight is on wrong. How odd.”

As I’ve mentioned, I snagged a M&P9 Pro CORE. The iron sights on it are behind the RMR. Acquiring the red dot sight on it took some getting used to.

Thinking the sight was wrong, I brought up the sight picture. Immediately. I was amazed at how fast I could bring the dot on target. I’m sure there’s a logical explanation for why putting the iron in front of the red dot sight makes it zippier. But I don’t know what it is.

Now, I need to find a good custom slide maker for M&Ps. Or where to buy one. Anybody?

Good news, guys!

I’m not blind. I just suck at my camera phone. Someone showed me how to use it.

So, my butt refuted the New York Times

That will be a (rough approximation of a) headline that you’ll soon be familiar with. I told him he could quote me. Some guy told me that was the best lede he ever had. Now, my fear after saying he could quote me, was people googling me and that being up there in the ranks. But then I remembered I work for me.
