That’s assuming it ever was. I’m guessing it is today much like it was 50 or 100 years ago; some cops are shootists and some, probably a majority, aren’t all that into it. One difference for sure is that there weren’t poly/striker pistols 100 years ago.
As I recall, Jeff Cooper, not long after W.W.II, complained that cops weren’t shootists, and set out along with some of his friends to develop the modern method. So I’m guessing that in every day and age, cops haven’t been the shootists “they used to be”.

Much like Rob Pincus, if Mr Ogre recommends something, I usually go the other way and this advice has served me well in the past.
