Not just Obama. It’s a standard gun control talking point.
And then there’s that “urban” is often derided as being a dog whistle for minorities.
Course so is the idea that country-estate landowners should have more rights than proles who rent apartments.

Afterward, he told reporters gun control was an issue that should be sorted out at the state level.

Then wouldn’t that mean it should be “sorted out” at the local level and not the state?

Ben Carson has said the same thing.
He just didn’t say it recently because he got his pee pee slapped for being an idiot, so he’s against GC now.

GW Bush would have signed a continuation of Clinton’s Ban. So why do you assume that the brother isn’t cut from the same cloth? He may have been governor of Florida, but they both have Massachusetts in their blood.

The Bushes are a bunch of blue bloods from the NE.
That being said:
-JEB was good on guns in FL
-he may have dipped into the family supply of political advisers and they’re telling him to say things that were acceptable 10 years ago.
-I think a lot of the political class has no real natural instincts when it comes to a lot of these issues. They just blow in the wind, adopting whatever view their advisers and the polls tell them will sell. Since gun control can seem like a 50/50 issue depending on how you poll it, JEB probably thinks he has to tread carefully for fear of offending anyone. He knows that guns won’t be his weak spot vs Hillary.
