This isn’t hysteria. This is part of a calculated plan to make children fear and hate firearms.

  2. Ellen Says:

It sounds reasonable on the part of the school. Nearby gunshot? Don’t know exactly what is going on? Lock the doors and stay away from the windows.

If they stayed locked down for very long, that’s a different matter. Presumably somebody is on the line to the police to find out what happened.

  3. Huck Says:

Wait, what? A elementary school that’s open in JULY? What happened to summer vacation?

It looks like they locked down a EMPTY school. Now that’s the ultimate in PSH.

    According to their website–

    http://www.cde.ca.gov/re/sd/details.asp?cds=37683386114375&Public=Y

–it’s a year round school, not a traditional calendar school. Year round schools have longer breaks (a few weeks) during the year and the summer break is usually only a few weeks, just like the other breaks. So, no, not empty.

You have to read between the lines in this story. A guy “hanging out with friends” and “playing with a gun” in a public park is not Mr. Lawfully Armed Citizen, especially in California.
The story should read like this: Some gangbanger fired an unlawfully-carried gun in a park, and the officials at a nearby elementary school, not knowing what had happened but knowing that it wasn’t good, locked down their school to protect the children inside, whose welfare is their responsibility. Said gangbanger claimed the shooting was accidental, but he may have been drawing the gun to shoot another gangbanger and gotten on the trigger too quickly. Investigation continues.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
