I could make a guess, but then again, since the motive for the shooting remains a mystery, why not leave the motive for being armed remain one, too?

I doubt its a mystery to them either. I’d guess that is the party line to discourage copycats.

It seems they may have violated the disarmament law. Perhaps their Commander-in-Chief can have them posthumously court-martialed, just to serve as an example for others who may dare to carry the means of self-defense.

Both were commanders of their respective units at the facility. Somehow the idea that the Commanders of a Military unit cannot be trusted with firearms escapes my faintest understanding.

Military police can carry guns. Run their recruiters through MP training, and let them carry.
