I’ve been following this since about 2009, and it’s taken that long for someone to figure out how to compromise the car from the internet AND never having had prolonged physical access to the car.
It was just a matter of time. I got into it on a jeep-specific forum with a guy who said this was overblown and fearmongering etc etc…but it’s not. Once you’ve got the exploit worked out it would take about 10 minutes of work to brick a half million cars.
Do it during rush hour and it becomes a problem for everyone, not just the folks that havent patched their cars. In fact, one of the guys on my team has one of the affected cars and has already patched his.
If you have a Uconnect radio, you’re vulnerable. Go get patched today.
