Downsizing can be expensive. For one thing, you need to form a new government department of downsizing, then hire a gaggle of downsizing consultants who will then recommend a team of specialists to perform a downsizing impact study. Then of course you simply MUST have a long term downsizing plan, and that will require a department of downsizing planning, which will answer to that department of downsizing.

And that’s just for starters, Man. You’ll obviously need a whole legal team to deal with all the potential legal issues, and a political oversight advisory committee to make recommendations regarding the political and social fallout of any suggested downsizing plans. Then there are the outreach committees and the information branches.

Once al that’s set up and going, you’ll end up needing an umbrella organization to look over all of it, purely in the public interest you understand, so we know we’re getting our money’s worth.

It could add tens of thousand of pages to state law and cost hundreds of millions of dollars just to look at it, so of course you’re going to have to look at new revenues. Jeeze; do want smaller government or not? Make up your mind!

A gas tax increase is not unreasonable in itself – better than a new mileage tax using GPS to track an individual vehicles use of the roads – the trick is keeping the funds in DoT (State and Federal) and not having it raided for the general funds. I remember back in/about 1985 when the fed skimmed off a total of $1 trillion (then the national debt was $1.8T).

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
