Sheepdoggin

Wow. Now, a gun grab can happen to any of us, open or concealed. Even having appropriate attire and a good holster, some times your shirt doesn’t cooperate. I’m thinking I might need more retention training.

i don’t carry yet, but i’d likely carry pocket or cross draw appendix to avoid just this sort of grab. the idea of having a gun dangling out behind me is kind of anxiety inducing.

tincankilla, I agree. I like appendix myself.

Reading that was like listening to a rapper…straight outta Compton.

With so many folks carrying today, especially in the south, with T shirt and shorts as the mandatory dress code, I’m surprised that this doesn’t happen more often.

If you dress like that and carry more than a P3AT (or something similar) your printing to anyone who is observant.

And yes, I know, many can carry a full size pistol in their jock strap without anyone noticing. Unfortunately, I can’t, it’s already full.

One of the reasons I favor appendix carry with a IWB holster is the retention capabilities. And you can carry a Glock 26/27/33 in that position (or a S&W 640-1 .357.)

Very easy to defend the gun in that position, and very fast to draw.

And happily for me I only have 35 years of martial arts from TKD to Krav Maga to JKD to boxing to judo. And yes, SN’s classes.

For this very reason I usually carry with a holster that is a level 3 retention holster. I usually only use it at level 2 as I’m not confident that under pressure I’d get the hood disengaged properly. It’s not an end all, be all, but it should give me those few seconds to become aware that I’m under attack and switch mental gears as noted, protect the weapon, either disengage or defend myself until it’s safe/possible to deploy the gun.

This is why I have a one handed folder in each front pocket. One hand goes to the gun to hold it in the holster, the other to the knife. The training that I received was that if you have to, go to the ground and lay on your gun. Put your whole body weight on it. Then stab the motherlover who is trying to take your gun a lot.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
