Picked up a taurus 38 spl snubby. easy to carry and shoots good. Better than some 380’s and 9mm little guys I have and is more bang that the little 22’s I have.
Disappears in a pocket, assuming you do not wear skin tight togs.
whats not to like?

Personally fond of the Smith 638 (or 438 if you can find one).
double action capable, with single as an option. Still not that enjoyable to practice with.

The one time I had to use a gun seriously it was a S&W 640-1 in .38 Special, contact range. In fact the goblin tried to grab it, I twisted it out of his hand, pushed it into his abdomen and fired a single shot, which stopped his attack and made him controllable. A contact shot with a semi-auto would be problematic, as it might cause a jam or other malf.
A revolver is a fine choice, IMO.

I pocket carry all the time due to wearing suspenders (no belt to hold holster and I’m a bigun). I find the pocket revolvers longer on the hypotenuse from tip of barrel to back corner of grip then many pocket autos. Even in a good pocket holster and cargo pockets the grip wants to stick out. I carry a Kahr PM9, it is a bit larger then the micros, but easier to shoot well and sits flatter and lower in the pocket. Also no cylinder bulge when your sitting down.

Internal hammer, 11.4-ounce 340PD w/ Green HiViz fiber optic front sight…w/ ebony colored smooth S&W wooden grips. It’s a great point and shoot snubbie.
I carry mine in my pocket, in a SOB and an OWB holster.
They’re pricey, but considering it take 100-tons of ore to produce 1-pound of scandium, it ain’t that bad in the big picture of costs.

Ruger LC9 every day.

Not a revolver but if im carrying my bodyguard 380 is on me somewhere… As a bug if nothing else.

I cannot believe everybody doesn’t pocket carry. I have a love for small pistols ever sense I heard Chuck Shumer go on a rant about them having no purpose and should be banned. I’ll carry in each pocket, it’s just the ultimate American thing to do. My favorite, NAA .22 long rifle. So small that people don’t even think it’s real. It’s usually the third or fourth gun on me. Like I said, they are so much fun and a definite gateway drug.

Charter Arms. I have the 44 Special Bulldog and the 40S&W Pitbull. I practice with 44 Russian cowboy loads, 200-gr plated DEWC and 3.8-gr Bullseye. For defense, I carry the Blazer 165-gr JHP, aka, the “Flying Ashtray”, since the Sheriff recommends that round. The Pitbull actually has more ME than the Bulldog, and a MUCH wider array of practice and defense ammo.
The two Charter Arms snubbies share a Galco OWB holster with my other snub, a Ruger SP101.

I’m quite impressed with Ruger’s LC9s, but it will require a large pocket to be successful (the Pro model leaves off the mag and thumb safeties, one has to disassemble the non-Pro to remove the mag safety). I carried an S&W 340PD for years as a backup, still use it as a pocket “quick store run for milk” gun. Light, easy to carry, good caliber (357) but try before buying – recoil is fierce, even with 38 Special ammo.
You might still have Homer’s ammo/accuracy spreadsheet from about a decade or so back that included the 340.

I kinda like the LCR. Lightweight, good trigger, good price point.

Ah, the Beretta Panther. What you carry when you can’t have a gun. Can be worn as a tie-tac.

I like pocket carry, and I can offer two bits of advice:
1) I’ve yet to find a pocket holster I like for front-pocket-of-pants carry. They either make it hard to initially grip the gun, or they come out with the gun. My solution was to cut the toe off a sock. This protects the pocket from wear, protects the muzzle from debris, and allows an uncomplicated draw. Obviously this is only suitable for double-action pistols or revolvers.
2) Coat-pocket carry is great, so long as you won’t get separated from your coat.
If you want something to slip into the front pocket of your pants, you want an LCP. If you want a coat-pocket gun, get whatever you like that will fit.

Pocket guns are Kahr PM 45 (only because I committed to. 45 the 9 is really awesome) and Ruger Lord .357 which is NOT a Snubbie from hell.

Kahr P380 for me. I can roll around on the ground fixing equipment with that in my pocket. The cylinder on a revolver feels like a jagged rock grinding into my thigh.
The heavy duty rasp-like checkering on the Kahr makes it the only small gun that doesn’t try to squirm out of my paw with every shot.
And I clean it at least once a week.

Sir would you have a moment to speak about our 9mm revolver?
I would say 9mm LCR if you must have a revolver.
But with only 5 shots I say you are placing a bet that you only need to deal with on bad guy at a time.
Here is some data on 2 inch 9mm vs .357 Mag etc. http://practicaleschatology.blogspot.com/2015/08/muzzle-velocity-vs-barrel-length.html

Been carrying an electroless nickel S&W 442 .38 for 20 years, now. (when it wasn’t cold enough to carry the 5″ 1911 – which was not very often!)
In a Kramer front pocket holster. With a speed strip.
Works for me!

I’m a big fan of my Sig P238.

Kahr CM9 in a DeSantis Super Fly for me. I can shoot it better (or it shoots better, not sure which) than my Glock 19 that has a Lone Wolf barrel installed. Recoil is more manageable than the 642 I had as well.

I like my Ruger LCR .357 for pocket carry. I do it often. Sometimes it seems a bit heavy (loaded revolver in one pocket and two strip clips in the other), but most of the time I don’t notice it. That is what belts are for.
August 27th, 2015 at 3:43 pm
If a revolver is what you must have, here is another vote for the .357 LCR. I had an S&W 442 and tr5aded it off when I got the LCR. Better trigger, less felt recoil and a much better caliber. Up close, if you don’t hit them square, they can be identified by the flash burns.

Any decent tailor/alterations shop can put in a deeper, better shaped, heavier fabric pocket. “Dressing around the gun” includes modifying your cloths to carry/conceal better.

Been packing a S&W 640 .38 spl. Centennial for over 20 years as my ‘Summer Gun’. Winter gun is a Glock 26 9mm.
Bought the gun new, had a red insert front sight and Eagle Secret Service stocks added. Did my own action job.
Totally satisfied!!!! I have a practice .38 Centennial and a practice Glock 26 I shoot often to keep my hand in.
Highly recommend the S&W J frames. I even picked up a S&W 642-1 ‘Professional’ airweight (takes ring clips) but I still pack my old reliable.. the 640!

j frame with CT grips loaded with wadcutters. Bodyguard is the best bet so you can control the hammer on reholstering if you ever carry it on a belt.
Either pocket carry or aiwb (I like the dark star gear clip on aiwb for them )

I really like the Ruger small revolver. LCR? 38 special +P. It is pretty snappy with +P ammo, but the ammo made for short barrels seems to be all +P (or at least that’s what I saw at the time.) I read somewhere that the .357 magnum can’t burn powder fast enough to make the short-barrel make sense.
Will have to see.

S&W 940 works great in jeans, less so in dress slacks for me. For that it’s the Kahr PM9.
August 28th, 2015 at 11:57 am
Ruger LCR in front pocket 24/7, even at home. I find it to be a much better shooter and lighter than a typical j-frame. If I leave my quiet little town and go to the big city, I also carry a G19 and use the LCR as a BUG. The pocket pistol really shines when there’s no clear threat, but your radar is going off. I just put my hand in my pocket and keep walking like normal… I don’t have to telegraph my intentions the same way I would if reaching for a IWB hip holster.

If you do it, do it right: Sig P238
We have both the P238-HD (.380 all-steel version) and the 938 (9mm). They fit the same holsters.
I can control and hit with the 938 just fine, but the 238 requires far less work. My wife does not shoot the P938 good, at all (but loves her 9mm/.40 large frame guns).
I will say that in a pinch I would shoot much better with the Sig P238. It’s rock solid (2000+ rounds so far). I carry the P238, P938 and a Glock 26/27. Yeah…four guns and I am breaking “rulez”. Whatever.
In general, if you are going to carry a tiny gun make it the best tiny gun you can find. Right now Sig all-steel versions are the top of the pack.
FWIW, we also have mouse guns from Beretta, Kahr, S&W and Ruger. So this is not a fanboi post – we put real money down to figure out what works for us.
I will also note that I prefer the unmanly .380 in these small guns. The difference for me is I can pull, aim and hit the target with nothing more than thinking about it. The 9mm versions of the same guns require a little more thought.
As always, YMMV.
* You got my real name and email. If you head out our way be sure to reach out. We have a lot of tiny caliber guns as well as a range to test them on.

Patrick,
Colt fanboy here.
Sig did it right in copying the Colt Mustang (itself a borrowed design). The locked breech makes a totally different shooting experience than all the straight/delayed blowback option.
Just wish Sig or Colt would bring back the full size “Government Pocketlite .380” model. Longer barrel and one more round in a still sub-compact size.

It is really not a problem to pocket-carry a Glock 33 (26/27) in TRU-SPEC pants/shorts with a Galco PH286 holster.
