I’ve seen that dozens of times
But I did not know the back story. The internet is funny. Funny how many times I found out someone I know created a thing I knew about.

The Martini in the cartoon came from a gun show at Chilhowee Park. The pith helmet was a gift from Bayou Renaissance Man.

The cartoonist is happily farming with TJIC in New Hamster.
It’s a small ol’ world. 🙂

It is such a great cartoon, too. Maybe Joe would take it up as a Boomershoot icon for the T-Shirts one year. It has a lot of applications. I can kinda see Eeyore behind him, saying “Oh, you’ll never make that shot. It’s too far and it’s too windy…”

Since the 24th Foot were the main component of the force that got it’s buckwheats from the Zulu at Isandlwna I might suggest an alternative caption along the lines of “‘Oh bother’ said Pooh, ‘where ever have those Gatlings gone off to?'” Note: I served in the First Battalion The Rhodesian African Rifles, a sister regiment of the 24th Foot.

The 24th stood their ground at Rorke’s Drift against over 3000 Zulus.

Let’s see, for what it’s worth:
A. My Regiment, I can poke fun if I want to.
B. In the Regiment Isandlwana is a cautionary tale for Young Soldiers. Roarke’s Drift is a Fine Small Unit Action. But it’s Ulundi (1500 for 10) that is How It’s Done, If You General Types Would Stop Jostling Our Elbows While We’re Bloody Well Shooting, Thank You Very Much! Wafa Wafa Wasara Wasara.
