Trying not to cover yourself with the barrel looks very difficult.

The action is open the entire time the barrel would be covering your body, if it was done inline with it. The action is closed when the muzzle has rotated to point straight down. Offsetting it like Jerry does make it look very tenuous in maintaining control of the gun. The only danger I see would be smacking yourself in the face, if your arm isn’t long enough.

It is a cute video, and a step up in production level for sure. I don’t suppose it would be appropriate to ask, “Why?”
John Wayne does it with a carbine in True Grit while riding a horse, for them that wants to study the technique, you know, for their upcoming IPSC match, or something.
Or “How to get banned from any gun range in under ten seconds”? I try to avoid gun ranges, but I imagine a range Nazi having an aneurism over such a thing.

Heh. When I was younger and more ignorant, I tried that with my dad’s Winchester model 94 (unloaded—I wasn’t THAT ignorant), after seeing The Duke do it in ‘True Grit’. It doesn’t work very well with a small-loop lever. My fingers still hurt just thinking about it.
