Marijuana goes down in Ohio
Seems people were OK with the weed, the state mandated cartel, not so much:
“I can’t believe I voted ‘no’ when it was finally on the ballot,” said Marty Dvorchak, 62, of the northern Cincinnati suburb of Fairfield. “I think it’s ridiculous that marijuana is illegal. The war on drugs has been a failure. But I don’t think 10 people (growers) should have a monopoly.”

Not that I disagree with Marty, but I wonder if he’s aware of the alcohol cartels…er…distributorship that each state has codified. Prohibition brought us alcohol funded criminal organizations; the repeal of prohibition just made them legal.

I voted against it for exactly the same reason as Marty.
Ken in NH – you can brew your own beer, make your own wine. This bill would force you to pay $50 for a license to grow your own and forfeit your fourth amendment rights against unreasonable searches and seizures. Additionally, if you bought a grow your own license, YOU WOULDN’T BE ALLOWED TO GET A CONCEALED CARRY LICENSE.

Yeah, so I voted against marijuana legalization in Colorado for similar reasons. I agree with removing the prohibition, but as seems to be a common impulse, there were new taxes involved. Since the government spends $2 every time they collect another $1 in taxes, I was against it for that reason.
I think a federal law change would probably work better. Being a marijuana island in the center of the country has not had solely positive results for Colorado.

When these issues arise, it reminds me of the quote by the Roman statesman and historian, Tacitus, “the more corrupt the state, the more numerous the laws.”
Instead of a federal law change, there should be repeal. The Feds have no delegated powers re: drugs, nor, for that matter, alcohol, tobacco or firearms. DEA and BATF should be eliminated. This is a State matter, but certainly this fascist type control should be voted down.
