It was bound to happen (just like last year)
After record NICS checks month after month (thanks, Obama), January NICS checks drop sharply.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

Relax Uncle, the Gun Salesman in Chief still has 11 more months to make salesman of the year again for 16.

You’d never know it around here; can’t find a stripped lower anywhere. Dealers say they can’t keep them on the shelf.

I work in a gun store in PA; The beginning of January was EXTREMELY strong, but things appear to be starting to slow down for us. Still, we’re a small shop so this might just be an issue of insufficient supply, rather than slack demand.
I don’t know how the NICS numbering scheme works, but with PA’s POC system, the numbering scheme is 2-digit year, single alpha to identify how the check was run (web interface vs phone call), and then a 7-digit serial transaction number.
As a result, I know there were roughly 60,000 PICS checks run in January, and that there have been nearly 20,000 run so far in February. The final tally for 2015 was ~500,000. If these numbers stay up, we’re probably looking at a 20-30% increase in the number of checks being run annually. What other market segment can you think of that has this kind of growth?
