Cheaper Than Dirt opened a very nice retail outlet a few miles from my home in Round Rock, Texas (an Austin bedroom suburb). They closed less than a year later.
I have no idea why, unless it was the competition from gun & equipment & ammo sales at 6 locations within less than 2 miles of their shop, including a Walmart, an Academy Sports shop, a Gander Mountain, and three mom & pop gun shops. The Cabelas 35 miles away to the south and the Bass Pro 15 miles to the north probably had little to do with the closure.
I got some ammo at a pretty good price there, and some other stuff, but they closed before I’d saved up enough for any of the really nice selection of firearms they had in stock.

Looks like Amazon ain’t the only one with this idea.
