Not an engineer but why would it matter that the temperature differential would be -200 degrees Fahrenheit vs. 70 degrees against 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. Fun to watch but scientifically meaningless. Would have gotten same result at room temp. Thanks for the fun but as experiment quite meaningless.

Heated nickel powder plus carbon monoxide can produce an extremely toxic compound, nickel carbonyl, that is deadly poisonous in the 30ppm range.
As a Chemistry PhD, I fully support blowing shit up and stuff, but also as Chemistry PhD, I insist that appropriate safety measures be followed. Don’t try this stuff at home unless you know what the consequences will be, and you can avoid them.

Huh.
Looks just like the time I burned off some unknown pulldown powder I got in a yard sale buy of reloading equipment.

The only thing I can think of is cooling down high explosives with liquid nitrogen so the detonator fails to initiate it.
And I’m not sure if that’s hollywood BS or has some basis in reality either.
