speaking from experience, there’s nothing like going through this process or a similar one, even if successful, to make a citizen into a RADICAL advocate of the 2A.
tincankilla, being stationed in Massachusetts and trying to get the 1911 my grandfather left me into the state was enough to make me a radical advocate. There are no casual gun owners left in MA.
Tirno – someone’s experience in Massachusetts will depend on where they live. It’s a “may issue” state, so each police chief has complete authority over their jurisdiction. So it totally depends on what attitude the chief has. The one in my area is pretty good, I didn’t have to do anything special other than apply but it did take 3 months to get the permit.
Stossel might want to try illegally carrying a firearm in New York, just a Glock tucked into the pocket of his coat. His report on the ease of this would be an interesting contrast to how hard it is to be law abiding.
@Lyle, but if you use a gun in self defense with no unattainable permit, they would probably prosecute you more aggressively than the criminal perp. In a slave state or city, like NYC, one should carry “don’t ask, don’t tell”,use a revolver so there’s no tell tell brass and do it like Paul Kersey (Charles Bronson) did it in those first couple of “Death Wish” movies.

Trying getting an unrestricted carry license in Boston, Lowell, Watertown, or Brookline (listed in increasing order of bullshit).
*Hint* you won’t
At least Boston still has a gun club within the city limits. Even if it is a run down lead pit.

Hey but Donald Trump has one.

“Friends of the ruling class…”
Since the ruling class in NYC is dems only libs get guns. Oh wait, trump got one…no, I was right, just libs.

Meh. If you’ve got enough money, it doesn’t matter if you’re a lib or not. Just slip the officers in the permitting department a bunch of cash:

But if you are required to get a government issued photo ID to exercise your right to vote, it’s racist and discriminatory.

Yep; there’s nothing stopping a law-breaker from carrying. The law-abiding are the only ones with the restrictions on them.
