Was there not a dog available?
A police officer claims and injured cat was a threat. And shot the cat, killing it. The lesson here is probably that you shouldn’t call 911 to report an injured cat.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

Sadly, police have only one tool. Reminds me of the story about an autistic teen, having a bad day. Mother calls police, they show up and shoot him. One tool. Used to be police were hired because they wanted to help there neighbors. Now they hire anybody looking for the power trip.

It takes a special kind of stupid to quantify a housecat as a lethal threat to a human.

“It takes a special kind of stupid to quantify a housecat as a lethal threat to a human.”
A special kind of stupid, mated with cowardice and a sense of impunity. That combination will go a long way.
I’d have given the cop a break if he’d said he suspected the cat might have rabies.
And who calls the cops about an injured cat? “Ohmygod ohmygod, ohmygod; it’s a cat! Call THE COPS!!!”
Apparently there was enough cowardice and stupidity to go around.
I guess this is what we get for always hammering in the “Safety First” crap and forgetting all about “Doing The Right Thing First”.
There was a time when it was considered a stain on your reputation if you couldn’t exhibit some bravery now and then. Now it seems that cowering in a corner, or taking over-the-top precautions, is considered normal to laudable. Some of you right here would say he did the right thing because, why risk getting scratched? You know who you are. And if the homeowner had done exactly the same thing you’d have said it was too dangerous to fire a gun in a residential area.
Everything’s too fucking dangerous anymore, because being a stupid sissy is smart (you avoid getting a boo boo, which makes you the genius).

oooh.. That’s sad we can’t rely even on police officers these days.

The list of things one should not call the police for just seems to be getting longer and longer, doesn’t it?

Don’t call the emergency line for the police for anything unless there is somebody you want them to shoot.
I have had to report thefts and auto accidents to the police for insurance purposes. I always make sure to call the business (non-emergency) number and stress the fact that it is not any kind of emergency – i.e. no need for gun play.
They usually send some rookie to deal with that kind of boring routine stuff.

Don’t call the cops for anything. Handle it yourself. What’s that saying, “Shoot, Shovel, Shut up”?

Feral cat. The homeowner should have shot it themselves.

I’m guessing the reporting party really wanted ‘Animal Control’ (or whatever they are called there) but were too lazy to look the number up and they called 911 instead. The 911 operator (usually at the PD anyway)just passed it to the PD dispatcher instead of looking for the right number – and a cop gets sent instead of an Animal Control Officer (who might have known what to do for an injured/scared cat.

Clearly, a catastrophic feliney.
And the cop should be declawed. Clearly, he was previously neutered.

Or, you probably just shouldn’t call the police. They have no duty or desire to protect you, Joe Public. They are only there to collect revenue for the city and/or police dept. Actual public safety is last on a long list of priorities.

wildbill – Hadn’t heard that one. Possibly the most excellent piece of wisdom I’ve read in some time.
