“I don’t think you should ask that question,” said the child’s father.
“Should I take that as a ‘yes’?” the intern pressed.
And that is the reason why the guy who lied about it did the right thing. Any answer other than a “no” is a “yes”. You can bet that the doctor wrote “parents are gun owners” on that girl’s chart.
If this were truly about saving lives, Doctors should also ask “Do you suck d!(k?” Statistically, a gay man is ten times more likely to die from AIDS than a gun owner’s family is likely to die of a gunshot wound, even using the “30,000 gun deaths per year” myth as the firearm death number.
There are approximately 3.5 million gay men in the US, with 13,500 or so dying of AIDS in a given year. This makes the AIDS death rate for men who perform sex acts on another man 385 per 100,000.
“You think you’re joking, but…”
Dad’s cardiologist, ace dude, hell of a guy, and a real lifesaver, lost his license and went up the river for a little while for under-the-counter gun deals, refusing to sell out to a hospital practice, and crossing the ex, but mostly sending the receptionist to pick up a piece while “under disability.” Damn shame. He was a Gil Hibben collector, too. Until that happened.
IF you say “No” you might be guilty of providing incorrect information on a government document, sometime in the near future. Maybe even now, IANAL.
We can’t expect the ATF to complete an illegal registration of every gun owner in the country unless you are all willing to help do your part, for goodness sake!

“Oh my! Is it really that bad nowadays? Do you have one, Doctor? What kind do you recommend?” regards, Alemaster

I always figured I could look at the doctor for a second, and then ask, “Are you interested in selling me a gun?”
Maybe 10 seconds later, “If you’re looking to buy, I would recommend a licensed dealer instead of one of your patients.”

I got this question from a doctor once. I asked him if he had any firearms safety training.
When he said “no”, I asked him if it was policy here to have un-trained people give advice.
I also asked him if he knew what a medical ethics boundary violation was.

“Since 1992, the American Academy of Pediatrics has encouraged primary care providers to discuss firearm safety with families.”
Perhaps they would could save more lives by first discussing the hazards associated with visiting a physician in the first place?
