Under a new law that quietly took effect last week, many Tennessee gun owners may now legally keep loaded firearms in their vehicles even if they don’t have a state-issued handgun-carry permit.
As of July 1, people who are legally able to possess a gun under state and federal law, you can keep a loaded handgun, shotgun or rifle in a car or truck you legally possess.

Whew…I have been telling my wife that was the law for a while now…I was afraid I’d really screwed up 🙂

So, are the past two years full of news reports of long guns and shotguns experiencing negligent dicharges as they are removed from vehicles?
Stories of “I thought it wasn’t loaded” holes appearing in car doors, shot from the inside out, along with windows destroyed by birdshot, were a staple of my youth but have disappeared these days. Better safety efforts or less reporting?

Huh. I’da thunk my home state would have incorporated castle doctrine to include occupied vehicles long ago. But a quick google check shows they’re still not on the list of 39 states that do? So WTF good is that loaded gun if you can be prosecuted for using it to defend from violent attack?
