Gun Porn

In silly TV gun handling lulz, this is a bad guy in the TV show Preacher pulling a cocked, single action revolver out of his pocket:

    Well, on the bright side, at least it was cocked in the first place. How many times have we seen someone wave a gun at someone in movies or on TV where, after lots of mindless babbling, they attempt to show that they’re even more serious than they were a second before by cocking the gun or racking the slide? I especially love the last one, because that means the gun wasn’t loaded all along.

    TV has always been divorced from reality with regard to guns. Always. They’ve always gone with what sells, not what is true. Financial incentive. Worst thing has been that if a script writer shows a gun, someone has to get shot, or the audience is disappointed, and the script writer is out of a job. So, gun = somebody gets shot = social conditioning of a mass audience to believe that a gun means somebody gets shot. Not so good for legitimate gun owners, at least, not since the dawn of TV. TV always lies. It can’t help it. It’s an impersonal mechanism for lying. That’s why I don’t own one, though I do still some at work, which relentlessly reinforces my disinclination to own one. Television is shit.
    Buy a gun, take it to the range, learn to use it well, and live a real life that is satisfying to you. Screw TV – it’s junk.

    If you spend your life watching TV, you might as well have been a heroin addict.

    teevee free for more than a year, cable news free for years now. I feel way more alert and my imagination came back as well. I didn’t even realize it had stopped working.

    @Chas
    I believe you are referring to Chekov’s gun rule.

    Preacher has more and bigger problems with reality than illogical handling of firearms.

    When I watch old reruns of Gunsmoke, those Colt 45s were often handled just as incorrectly. And that was by actors who used the Colt every week for decades in that series.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
