Pastor does something stupid, realizes gun laws are kind of stupid.

Just kidding. I doubt he realizes that. He’s not smart enough to

Rev. Jeremy Lucas, in Oregon, decided that he didn’t want anyone to win an AR-15 that was being raffled off. So, he bought $3K worth of tickets to win it so he could destroy it. Well, he won. He then illegally transferred the weapon to a friend:

The allegations came to light on Friday after Lucas, who passed a background check at a local gun shop before taking possession of the AR-15, told the Washington Post that he and his wife then drove it to the home of a parishioner, a responsible gun owner, Lucas said, who offered to keep the rifle locked up in a gun safe until the pastor is ready to destroy it.

For that transfer of possession to be legal under Oregon law, the Christ Church Episcopal parishioner should have undergone a background check at a licensed gun dealer while Lucas was present. If that did not happen, Lucas may have committed a Class A misdemeanor, which is punishable by a fine of up to $6,250 and as much as a year in jail.

Put him in jail. Then he can lecture me on lax gun laws.

Aaaaaaaaaand the prosecutorial discretion ignoring this breach of law just went past.

  2. Ron W Says:

I’ll bet his is one of the churches that do the government “gun buyback” programs where they give you a gift card to turn in a gun. I wonder if they make money off of that—like churches that get money to accommodate refugees and illegal aliens? Such pastors, preachers, priests, etc. are engaging in treacherous treason against the people.

  3. MrSatyre Says:

“…a responsible gun owner, Lucas said” Apparently not that responsible if he was going to sidestep Oregon’s (stupid) law.

The hypocrisy on both the pastor’s and his parishioner’s part is astounding.

  4. Steve Says:

I’d be a little ticked if my church decided that was a legitimate use of funds.

I think an important takeaway is to limit the number of tickets that can be purchased if you’re offering a gun. Especially if there’s a large population of hoplophobes.

  5. The Jack Says:

“So, he bought $3K worth of tickets” by embezzling Church money earmarked for the poor.

    There you go.

Also note the same man complained that the NICS check was “too fast” and then decided to just give the gun to come guy. Really shows a window into their mentality.

  6. Fred Says:

    Hey Reverend stupid, er sorry, Lucas read this;

Oh wait, I just saw that last name. Didn’t your people come over from England then fight for the crown during the revolution. Figures. After you get a multicultural taste in the clink,

( the muz hoards love them some Revs, havn’t ya heard? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3708394/Two-men-armed-knives-people-hostage-French-church.html )

why don’t you head (if you still have one) home for a year to get a good, rich sense of how a godless, gunless society devolves into a third world hell hole. Maybe you can teach those animals in londonstan to stop shitting in their drinking water. hasn’t worked for a thousand years, but you’re the guy sparky. You can do it.

Well, God bless your little heart.

  7. ChuckinHouston Says:

What a clown. I bet the AR was one of those that you could buy for about $600. He should’ve used his church’s $3k at a gun shop to prevent about a half dozen ‘evil’ handguns from running wild.

  8. Chas Says:

No, don’t put him in jail, don’t try to make a martyr out of him, as the antis would do to us. Instead, treat him as appropriately as any American with the right to keep and bear arms should be treated. Stand up for his rights and defend them. That’s the right thing to do. Let him go forth and understand the wisdom and mercy of the Second Amendment, so that he might be more respectful of it, going forward. That’s just plain helpful all around.

  9. JTC Says:

Wait a minute, this might have potential. Let’s follow the money but backwards this time.

First, where’d that $3K go? I guess in this case, all to the softball league. But lots of charities will work on 10%, that’s what keeps bingo halls going in fla. So let’s say you find ten worthy causes to raffle off these $600 guns for $3000 in ticket sales. Pay the dealer $600 for the gun, shell out another $600 in promo expenses, and give the charity their free $300. $1500 invested, $300 returned, nice 100% markup. Now, pay the dealer for two more guns (remember delivery will be taken by the lottery winners), and pocket the other $300 to cover “administrative expenses”, totally legit.

So, who’s buying these 3K works of art-in-waiting? Well Rev. Lucas says he’s good for another if he ain’t locked up, and you know there’re another six or eight shepherd -type dopes who’ll gladly piss away OPM for some attention and pretend piety. And those particular OP whose M it is, deserve to have their lunch money taken by fakers and hustlers.

So where are we in the end? Well the manufacturer and the dealer each sell ten units with a gp of probably a grand between them, reinvesting it and growing their businesses (more inventory). The charities take in $3000 to put to their presumably good uses. Ticket and leaflet printers make some money. We pull out $3000 for our trouble, and I’m thinking of putting mine into an AR or six.

Finishing our money track-back, we see the individual contributors who have so abdicated their thought, logic, and reasoning as to let some attention whore with rev. in his name completely waste their tithes in a misguided -or malguided- crusade against the wrong enemy. Good. They deserve to starve in the dark and cold of the world their charismatics lead them to.

The only loss here is the function of the ten raffle rifles (say that ten times quick), but I would submit that these will serve an even more noble purpose as the grotesque “art” envisioned by this freak and others like him will haunt them and remind them of how they misled their mindless sheeple to their slaughter, for personal fame and profit.

  10. Fred Says:

Chas has a good point. That is, after all, the Christian thing to do now isn’t it?

  11. Jim Brack Says:

    Amen!

  12. JTC Says:

God doesn’t forgive charlatans using His name to defraud His flock for personal gain, and neither do I. Let him be ensnared in the in the anti-constitutional regulation trap he advocates, ultimate irony.

  13. Ron W Says:

@Chas, Fred and Jim, yes, respect his God-given rights as legally protected in ALL of the Bill of Rights. He may do want he wants with a firearm he legally acquired and pass it along to another which is bring “secure in his effects” (4th Amendment) …”where the Spirit of the LORD is, there is liberty” -II Corinthians 3:17

  14. MajMike Says:

I’d shift my membership to another church.

  15. MajMike Says:

By the way, Christ enjoined us to sell our cloak and buy a sword. Nowadays, I think that would equate to an AR15 or a Glock 19.

  16. Ron W Says:

Right MajMike, the sword was the primary weapon carried by the military super power of the day, the Roman Legion, which held Israel, Judea and Samaria under its empire during the time of Jesus. It would be the modern equivalent of the best military rifle.

  17. Lyle Says:

Pastor my ass. They’re becoming nothing but inadvertent shills for the a Progressive cause. Hypocrites. We call them Hypochristians.

“He who hath not a sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.” — Jesus Christ

That’s the translation I have. Of course, interpretations of that quote run the gamut. Jesus is getting ready to be arrested (for criticizing the authorities, for the most part, thus threatening their position and power). He’s telling the apostles that it is now time to re-join the world, after following him and not having to concern themselves with worldly concerns. So he’s releasing them back into the world, and tells them to arm themselves, then explains that it to fulfill the prophecy which says, “He shall be reckoned among the transgressors”.

We are left to speculate on what that means. I take the incident to mean that, living in this world we should be armed, and that also, being armed will cause the idiots, losers and criminals of the world to hate us, and that furthermore that is how it should be.

Following that quote, Jesus then goes on, a short time later, after the incident with the cutting off of the Roman’s ear, to say that, He who lives by the sword shall die by the sword.

So carry an AR-15, but don’t “live by” it. Progressives and communists “live by the sword” in that they live by a system of intimidation and coercion. Just keep your combat rifles and pistols around for defense of liberty.

The organized churches have pretty much all gone over to the Dark Side. Pastor my ass.

  18. JTC Says:

@Lyle, agreement with all of that; as to “Pastor my ass” that’s exactly what I meant by my “charlatan” comment above. Nothing new though, going back fifty years to those slick-haired teevee preachers shaking down my sweet, naļve, believer grandmother to pay for their castles and Rolls Royces; it is my contention that God has a special place under hell for them and the attention-whore variety like Rev. Jeremy here.

Also agreement on Jesus’ admonitions to avoid offense but be prepared for defense, and I absolutely do think he was referencing kings and “authorities”. Yes, being armed does cause us to be hated by criminals who are thwarted in robbing us, but much more so by the kingdom which is thwarted in controlling or killing us.

The institutions of religion and government are largely polluted and corrupted as institutions often are -unions, corporations, even families,- but that is irrelevant to the truth and good that inspired and still underlies them.

A blurb on my old blog “about” page said: “Love God, church not so much…and America, gov not so much…but I repeat myself.”

That about sums it up for me. Be prepared as Jesus commanded to defend yourselves in the times that come. And let the tools of the kings like the Rev. here, suffer the consequences of their sins in the here and in the hereafter.

  19. Fred Says:

Lyle, right. Also, later when he says; “It is enough” he is NOT talking about 2 swords being enough. Everywhere in scripture when asked to expound Christ honors the disciples request with more details or a parable except, where it is a command. So why not explain why 2 swords is enough? Because that is NOT what he said. What he said was; “It is enough” (that I have told you to arm yourselves). In other words, no further explanation is required.

More improper teaching or outright deception from the church “leaders”.

  20. DaveP. Says:

“When someone says, “What Would Jesus Do?” … just remember that this puts ‘busting up their business and chasing them down the street with a horsewhip’ on the table.”

  21. mikee Says:

It has been a week now since the linked article, and no further articles have appeared regarding charges. I’m betting the “investigation” will continue for 30 to 90 days, to show the seriousness of the investigation, which will produce zero publicly available results, following which the prosecutor will decline prosecution without comment. Any takers?

  22. Sigivald Says:

I presume he “didn’t know it was illegal” (honestly, truly).

Meaning he … doesn’t know jack about Oregon’s gun laws, but is Very Worried About Scary Dangerous Guns.

  23. Sigivald Says:

Conservative talk-show host Lars Larson also weighed in with a letter to Lake Oswego City Council members.

“Sounds like a ‘straw’ purchase to me,” Larson wrote.

Also, Lars Larson is an idiot, and always has been.

The Pastor was the “bona fide purchaser [transferee]”.

That he intended to destroy the gun, and have someone else store it until then does not remotely make him a straw purchaser, according to 18 USC or the BATFE.

He broke Oregon’s transfer law, but that’s not the same thing.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
