What’s your home defense gun choice?

Massad Ayoob would like to know. I have four various M&P9s in particular places. And quick access to an AR-15.

  1. Lyle Says:

Whadaya need? I probably have it.

Mostly it’s the 10 mm pistol I have on me whenever I’m dressed. A gun on the person beats a dozen guns you have to go run and fetch.

Need to defend the peace against random dogs that bark after midnight keeping people awake? Deer in the garden? 17 cal piston powered air rifle – enough to hurt but not injure. Whatever’s appropriate.

  2. PawPaw Says:

I carry a J-frame everywhere. All the time, constantly. Depending on where I am in the house, it’s liable to be anything, but the J-frame is always with me.

  3. Mikee Says:

    Glock 19, Remington 870.

  4. Alemaster Says:

    Same as PawPaw. regards, Alemaster

  5. SD3 Says:

    Same as Alemaster.
    Blam-blam-blam-blam-blam-*click*!

  6. wizardpc Says:

Like pawpaw and alemaster, I have something small on me all time. If I’m wearing pants and not forcibly disarmed by law, there’s a Kahr cm9 on me. There’s also likely a spare mag. I never want to be in a situation where I have to “go get a gun.” I should already have it.

That being said, given enough warning I’d much rather have one of the ARs I have in various places.

  7. Ritchie Says:

Beretta 92FS Compact with homemade thin grip panels. Hornady Critical Duty 135 gr. This is the EDC and usually in the same room with me at home. I know, a lot of old guys use those.

  8. HL Says:

    SCAR 17S

  9. Suppo Says:

380 auto. Rarely a messy exit wound and an easy dry wall repair job if I miss – which is hard to do at 10 feet. Additional bonus is that there is less chance of hearing damage than with a 45acp in close quarters.

  10. Huck Says:

Ed Brown Kobra Carry (.45 ACP) often on me but when not on the headboard in the bedroom. A Smith and Wesson model 10 (.38 Special +P) in a drawer in my bedroom, a Smith and Wesson model 25 (.45 Colt) on the top shelf in my hall closet, and a Maverick HS-12 shotgun (12 Gauge) also in the hall closet. I wouldn’t need to do any reloading, that’s for sure. 🙂

  11. JTC Says:

Well, after near 40 years as a (now former) FFL let’s just say if they ever bunk my junk it’ll make the news.

But I ain’t a commando or anything so as far as what’s at the ready, the old ’54 (like me!) Colt Cobra goes where I go. NAA is always in the pocket. And there’s a shortie shottie and a cheap AR ready to go and just a four-digit safe code from being in my hands. At the shop (now just coins, collectible watches and estate jewelry, gun biz just not worth the hassle to me anymore), there’re duplicates of the shotgun and sport rifle in the safe as well as two 9’s (yeah they’re glocks) in strategic locations.

Never in all those years had occasion to pull any of them in an emergency (knock wood) and I pray to God that trend continues ’til I die, but they’re there and ready because there’s a first time for everything.

Depending on what happens in November I will radically cull most of the collection along with a lot of other toys; I’m old and don’t do recreational shooting anymore, I’ve got a shit-ton of assets tied up there, and even with near bank-level security there’s always risk. And if you believe that fine tools should be used, it’s not fair to the guns or their future owners to hang on to them even though it’ll be hard to let them and that part of my life go.

But that old Cobra ain’t going anywhere but with me.

  21. Patrick Says:

I got asked the same question under oath by the office of the attorney general as part of a federal lawsuit against the state. They asked what my wife and I used for home defense and where we keep the arms.

I’ll respond to Masaad the same way I responded to them, “You got a pen and some paper?”

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
