Only the police should have guns
Seeking to stem the tide of gun thefts, state lawmakers on Wednesday sent the governor a bill that would require law enforcement officers and holders of concealed weapon permits to lock them up.
Specifically, anyone who leaves a firearm in a car would need to put it in the trunk or in a locked container out of plain view.
Violations would be an infraction subject to a fine of up to $1,000.
The security measure is currently required for most civilians but excludes police officers and those licensed to carry a concealed weapon.
Sen. Jerry Hill (D-San Mateo) said his bill expands those covered by the law because several handguns have been stolen out of police vehicles and used in deadly crimes.
Clearly, a stupid law. Unusual to add police to such stupid laws as they are typically exempted.

If we weren’t required by law to leave our guns in the car to enter a “self defense free zone”, the guns couldn’t be stolen.
Here’s an idea; stop infringing on our rights and we’ll be better able to take care of ourselves. End the welfare culture and people will be at work rather than out on the streets emulating the government by stealing things.
But as I’ve said for many years;

Well, that will be interesting with the shotgun or carbine in the rack.
But I think that the police should be held to EXACTLY the same standards as anyone else. They are not royalty that are above the law.

TO be clear:
You’re saying the “Lock ’em Up” law once excluded LEO & CC, but now they too are required to lock guns in cars when not carried on their person?
I don’t consider that a ‘stupid law’.
“STUPID” is leaving a firearm in plain sight in a car.
That’s just one smashed window away from arming the bad guys.
I guess I’m just amazed that people leave unsecured guns in plain sight in their cars; and it takes a law to stop it.

I have a hard time believing anyone is leaving guns in plain sight in parked cars. Blame the victim, again.
I don’t see the politician making any laws that enhance the penalty for stealing a gun out of a car though, do I?

True common-sense gun-control proposal:
1) First, they should pass another law making it illegal to steal a firearm from a car.
2) Then, they should pass a law requiring the police to arrest people that have stolen firearms from cars.
3) Then, they should pass a law requiring prosecutors to actually prosecute people that have stfc.
4) Then, they should pass a law requiring judges to apply the laws fairly and without bias.
5) Then, then should pass a law requiring the appellate judges to force the trial judges to apply the laws fairly and without bias.

Actually, in California, the latest movement in the gun laws has been toward applying them all on police officers. Not many of those have passed, but it’s starting to become an “in vogue” thing with the congressional types there.
