But it’s a winning issue
Democrat fight! One democrat says the other pushing unilateral gun control is bad for the party. They all mostly want to do that. Just not in an election year.

Underlying principle; what’s most important to the party is that which is good for the party.
Thus it is with all institutions, and so the axiom; once an institution is founded, it’s founding principles, and all other things, take a back seat to maintaining the strength and growth of the institution.
Since the purpose of the Democratic Party was to replace liberty with authoritarianism, we can only hope that it’s principles take the back seat as often as possible. The flip side is that the inevitable authoritarianism and bureaucracy that overcome every institution happen to be among the goals of the party in this case.

@Lyle, that is very well said and right on. I can recall back in the 60’s when some or many Democrats were classical liberals. As I have observed the party has morphed into almost all leftist authoritarians who work to trample the Bill of Rights.
The predominant two party system is a scourge because “the good of the party” is paramount. I think it was JFK, more of a classical liberal, who said, “sometimes party loyalty asks too much”.
