One weird trick to improve your shooting and get shots on target

For the last couple of years, I’ve been a terrible shot. Well, with handguns. I could still shoot rifles well but my handgun targets were embarrassing. Turns out, getting my eyes checked seem to do the trick. I now wear glasses and can actually make out both the front and rear sight. Also, you should probably get your eyes checked for plain old health reasons.

Took The Morrissey to the range today to try out the new Apex Tactical triggers I’ve installed to give them a function check. More on that later. But here’s a ten yards as fast as I can reasonably get the shots off while aiming.

Pastor does something stupid, realizes gun laws are kind of stupid.

Just kidding. I doubt he realizes that. He’s not smart enough to

Rev. Jeremy Lucas, in Oregon, decided that he didn’t want anyone to win an AR-15 that was being raffled off. So, he bought $3K worth of tickets to win it so he could destroy it. Well, he won. He then illegally transferred the weapon to a friend:

The allegations came to light on Friday after Lucas, who passed a background check at a local gun shop before taking possession of the AR-15, told the Washington Post that he and his wife then drove it to the home of a parishioner, a responsible gun owner, Lucas said, who offered to keep the rifle locked up in a gun safe until the pastor is ready to destroy it.

For that transfer of possession to be legal under Oregon law, the Christ Church Episcopal parishioner should have undergone a background check at a licensed gun dealer while Lucas was present. If that did not happen, Lucas may have committed a Class A misdemeanor, which is punishable by a fine of up to $6,250 and as much as a year in jail.

Put him in jail. Then he can lecture me on lax gun laws.

Why are anti-gun activists so criminal?

A while back, Fairfax City Mayor, and democrat and Hillary supporter, R. Scott Silverthorne penned some anti-gun diatribe for whatever Bloomberg was calling his anti-gun group back then. Well, he was arrested for trading meth to an undercover cop for sex.

Well, yes

Kate Scanlon:

Fox News senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano alleged Thursday that the Obama administration is violating a federal law prohibiting the federal government from compiling the personal information of gun owners during an interview Thursday on Fox and Friends.

But this administration and its members are free to break all the laws they want. It’s for your own good.

In MA

The governor there raises an alarm over the AGs unilateral decision to ban guns, without having authority to do so:

Gov. Charlie Baker and his public safety secretary, Daniel Bennett, each sent letters to Healey’s office today, formally calling on her to clarify details of the notice she announced last week during a press conference, where she was surrounded by law enforcement officials.

Baker, a Republican, had issued a statement to the media last week asking for as much, but has now taken the formal step in requesting more information from Healey as she and other Democrats huddle in Philadelphia this week for the Democratic National Convention.

“There is a great deal of uncertainty as to which weapons you consider to be assault weapons,” Bennett wrote in his two-page letter, dated today. “This uncertainty could easily lead to uneven application of the law across the Commonwealth, and it would be in the best interest of all involved to have additional clarity.”

Last Wednesday, Healey issued a notice to all gun sellers and manufacturers in Massachusetts banning guns which appear like the Colt AR-15 and the Kalashnikov AK-47, but have been altered by manufacturers to conform to Massachusetts ban on adjustable stocks, high-capacity magazines and other features.

If she did, maybe she wouldn’t have broken the law

Speaking of Johnson

It’s like he doesn’t want to make a difference. And he’s given up all pretense of pretending to be a libertarian, either to appeal to a wider audience or because he’s not really a libertarian. I mean, he’s said he’s OK with Obama’s court picks and seems to be trying real hard to appeal to moderates. Also, several of his positions seem to be pretty far from libertarian.

And in recent polls, he’s been getting some double digit returns. Apparently, if he can get 15% in polls, there is an outside chance he can participate in the debates. But he’s refused to go on radio shows or attend events. Well, if you’re only needing a few more points to get on the debate, I’d think you’d be appearing everywhere you could.

Anyhoo, enough backseat driving, more gun stuff tomorrow.

The Trumpening: Let’s pro/con this whole Trump thing

Con: There’s too many to list. So, I’ll skip it. You’ve heard it all before.

Pro: 1. Supreme court nominees: The argument, illustrated here, is that Hillary’s nominations to the supreme court would be horrible, terrifying and nasty. She’d gut the first and second amendments. And I’m sure she would. The counter to this is that Trump has said he’d nominate conservative justices. Trump might just do that. And if he did, I would really like that. But, I wouldn’t rule out him nominating a bologna sandwich to the supreme court either. Just sayin’

2. He’s a thumb in the eye to the establishment: For the last ten years, the establishment has, basically, told its voters and base to get bent. The long drawn out conversation, when summarized in the TLDR version, went something like:

GOP Voter: You’re gonna have to stop this whole democrat agenda thing. And maybe stand up to the administration or something? For serious.

GOP: OK, but we need control of the house to do that.

GOP Voter: OK, here’s control of the house. Now about that whole You’re gonna have to stop this whole democrat agenda thing?
And maybe stand up to the administration or something?

GOP: Uhm, yeah. We’re gonna have to have the senate for that. Got it?

GOP Voter: OK, here’s control of the Senate. Now about that whole You’re gonna have to stop this whole democrat agenda thing? And maybe stand up to the administration or something?

GOP: Well, our hands are still tied so we’re gonna need you to vote for us president.

GOP Voter:

offs

And that’s basically that. Trump caters to an attracts that demo. This should be a lesson to the GOP but it won’t be.

3. The press will start doing their job again: The media has carried the water for democrats since as long as I can remember. The recent DNC email leaks confirm there was collusion. Trump won’t get such a pass and, like when Bush was president, they’ll start doing their jobs.

So, for these reason, Trump actually is slightly more preferable than Clinton. Clinton is a known quantity. Trump isn’t. And his election would send a message and get the press on board with actual accountability in government. And, I could be wrong, Trump might not nominate a bologna sandwich for anything.

Don’t get all weepy. I’ll still not vote for him. Probably Johnson.

Scott Williams for Second District State Senate

No secret, I’m supporting him. Because Doug Overbey is awful.

As more evidence that Overbey is awful, our terrible local news rag (which you wouldn’t know there was an election going on until today) endorsed him because he’s a champion or some such silliness.

And more evidence, the local liberal semi fortnightly endorsed him too.

Tomorrow is election day. If you’re local and haven’t voted, consider Scott Williams.

About that gun owner database we don’t have

The GAO says the ATF is hoarding gun owners personal information. This is likely illegal:

The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), the go-to federal oversight agency, conducted an audit of ATF and found it does not remove certain identifiable information, despite the law explicitly mandating it do so. GAO conducted reviews for four data systems, and concluded at least two of ATFs systems violated official protocols.

John B. Alexander, Ph.D. and Nazis: Similarities Abound

Both are good at propaganda. They both oversimplify, fail at reason, and like to other their political opponents as sub-human and without remorse. They accuse their political opponents of having nefarious viewpoints which they don’t actually have. And they’re both socialists. And they’re both asshats.

True

Trumps says dumb things. Clinton does criminal things.

I’m not Trump fan but watching the never Trumpanzees twist themselves into rhetorical knots says a lot. For instance, Trump never advocated banning porn. But they claim he did. And there’s more.

ATF head: Yeah, we kind of need a database of all gun owners to make our jobs easier

CBS News:

In his first television interview, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Deputy Director, Head Thomas Brandon tells CBS’ “Sunday Morning” that the agency’s job is not to take away firearms from people, but to regulate weapons that can be misused.

“We’re a small agency with a big job,” Brandon tells correspondent Richard Schlesinger, in an interview to be broadcast Sunday, July 31.

Brandon also says his agency is hampered by not having the necessary technology. Congress has imposed constraints on ATF, such as prohibiting the agency from creating a computerized database of gun purchases.

On to an actual database:

Yet, Brandon says, not having the database hurts. Indeed, after the San Bernardino shootings, it took 12 hours to find out who owned the guns used in the attack. He says a computer database would have helped, and adds that not having one simply doesn’t make sense.

“There’s a lot of things that don’t make sense in this town, you know?” Brandon tells Schlesinger. “And, so, yeah, would it be efficient and effective? Absolutely. Would the taxpayers benefit with public safety? Absolutely. Are we allowed to do it? No.”

Yes, because government lists are such a great idea.

Of course, he’s lying

Dan Gross of the Brady Campaign to Cling to Relevancy says the organization doesn’t want to ban guns. Except for assault weapons. And Saturday night specials. And handguns. And, well, guns.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
