Is that one of the .22lr models or an original? If an original, where are they getting the ammo. If a 22lr, it says alot about the structural stability of the design.

Actually a rather large amount of Nazi WWII era weapons ended up in Syria.

7.92×33mm Kurz has the same base size as 30-06, 308, 8mm etc.
