My only comment is that despite it saying “grenade launchers”, I’m pretty sure anything they lost is a 37mm gas canister launcher, not a 40mm grenade launcher.
(Or if it’s a suplus’d 40mm, they don’t have and didn’t lose any actual explosive rounds.)
We have 40mm launchers with gas and soft foam. No explosives. But they are 40mm.
As for the missing guns, could be something, could be nothing. They did an expose on all the guns we lost in evidence, but the reporter didn’t know the proper forms used for returns and destruction. So a gun returned to an employer would be coded in our book but they had it listed as lost for the article. Same thing with guns used in crimes. Didn’t recognize the code for being turned over from the USAO for destruction following a case so they listed them as lost.

Actually most agencies do use 40mm launchers now but no, no local LE agency I’ve ever heard of of have explosive rounds.
