Well, that’s comforting
Vice Mayor David Briley has convened a special Metro Council hearing next month that will explore gun violence in Nashville, whether its actually on the rise, and what to do about it if theres a problem.
Sounds like he has a plan.

My first thought was that they are going to try to ignore preemption again.

City officials take an oath to the State Constitution. The only power in the Tennessee State Constitution is DELEGATED to the Legislature in Article I, Section 26 which first DECLARES the right of the citizens to keep and bear (carry) arms for self defense. Then it is stated that “the Legislature shall have power to regulate the WEARING of arms with a view to prevent crime.” So the State may only regulate how we carry or “the wearing” of arms, that is, holstered, open, concealed, with a sling, etc. therefore, Vice Mayor Briley has NO delegated powers for meddling in this matter.
