Expectations
Of Trump, that is. The biggest winner of the election: The NRA. Given Trump has assembled his second amendment coalition, I’m hopeful he’ll do something to advance gun rights instead of just paying lip service.
And those that elected Trump did not do so to reach across the aisle and all that other hippie nonsense that gets said when Republicans win. They expect something from him. Will he deliver?
And he’ll appoint one supreme court justice for certain. Potentially, he’ll appoint three. I hope he holds to his word there.

There will be political capital to be spent on gun legislation. If he’s going to weather a shit-storm of the press claiming wild west, blood-in-the-streets, we might as well get the most effective item out of the way first: concealed carry reciprocity. It will effectively end the bubble that most cities (and their host states) have built around the gun issue. It’s winning too; Millennials aren’t buying what Brady is selling these days.

Yeah, and Reagan and Bush 41 both gave us more gun restrictions, though Reagan’s were both give and take.
I’ve been to this rodeo several times before; great expectations followed by great disappointment, followed by anger and disgust. I wonder why some people are so exuberant. Do they not know their own recent history?
The best outlook at this point, and at all points regarding politicians and other government pukes, is to be suspicious.
DT (which also stands for a disease; Delirium Tremors, which results, in an alcoholic, from sudden alcohol deprivation) did after all let it be known during the first debate that Bloomberg is one of his heroes. He’s also been immersed in the New York City Progressive culture for most of his life, which means he couldn’t articulate the American Principles of Liberty on his own if his life depended on it.
So withhold the celebration until we see what he actually does.
Shall we start a betting pool regarding the exact date on which he blows up and shows anger and hate for conservatives who’re trying to hold him to it? McCain and Schwarzenegger both did it, as have others. If I were a betting man I’d say sometime before the end of January. Maybe even before inauguration, but I figure he can control himself until after.

Not just three… it’s conceivable he could name four justices, especially with two terms:
Scalia’s seat is empty — it’s almost impossible to imagine circumstances in which this seat isn’t filled for four years.
Ginsburg is 83 — and 84 in March.
Kennedy is 80.
Breyer is 78.
That’s both remaining dissents from Heller and two of three from McDonald. They are also the only three left from the majority in the Kelo decision.
I’m not wishing them ill (I’m not a leftist) — they’re just the oldest three justices, and coincidentally, have been on the wrong side of a few tight votes.
Thomas is also up there, but not near as much — he’s 68.

I pray that Trump overturns Bush and Clinton’s firearm import bans soon after taking office. Stroke of a pen and law of the land. Pretty neat.

@Ken in NH, whatever carry reciprocity is enacted, it should NOT be administered or permitted by the Feds. It should be pursuant to the 2nd and 14th Amendments making unlawful for States and local governments to violate the enumerated right of the people to keep and carry arms for legal self defense.

Cruz would be great here.

Here’s to hoping he doesn’t follow through on his expressed desires to arbitrarily deny rights based on secret lists without due process.
Because, yeah, the NRA will own that too.

Have some fun with it: ask your liberal friends: “So, did you hear the rumor that Trump is going to give Ginsburgs seat to Ann Coulter?”

So to glom on to what Lyle said, I was actually kind of…don’t really know the right word here so I’ll use relieved, that we didn’t have President Elect Romney when Sandy Hook happened.
I knew that a Republican Congress would resist any calls for gun control by Obama, but would have enthusiastically “done something” with a President Romney.
I don’t believe any of the wishful thinking about rescinding executive orders banning imports, nor national reciprocity, nor removing suppressors from the NFA, nor repealing Hughes.
None of those things are important to Trump–not in the way they would have been important to say Perry or maybe even Cruz.
As for Republicans in Congress and the Senate: If they successfully WIN an issue, they can no longer fund raise off of that issue. I expect zero movement on anything, and lots of “Well, you know, what we REALLY need is 60 votes in the Senate…Click here to donate!”
And that includes Obamacare.

“I don’t believe any of the wishful thinking about rescinding executive orders banning imports, nor national reciprocity, nor removing suppressors from the NFA, nor repealing Hughes.”
That would be my wishlist right there. He doesn’t have to champion those initiatives from the bully pulpit, but if we can push them through as legislation (The Making America Great Again Act of 2017), all he’d have to do is sign it.

Trump is only a recent convert to the RKBA, I just know a face down card is a better bet that a crooked queen that is face up.
Let’s hope he wants a 2nd term. We need to remind him that Bush Sr got what he deserved.
I don’t think Ruth Bader Ginsburg can last four years, and I bet she’ll die trying.

“I don’t think Ruth Bader Ginsburg can last four years, and I bet she’ll die trying.”
And when she DOES die, the remaining liberal judges will play “Weekend at Bernies” with her until body parts start falling off.
And here she was, all ready to retire as soon as Obama’s pick was confirmed…

If Trump expects to be reelected, he better start delivering in his first 100 days in office to those who voted for him by tossing the Marx-Gruber-Obama Healthcare & Citizenry Control Act back into the reeking socialist/communist garbage pile it came from; tackling the illegal alien issue head on; appointing a constitutionally competent SCOTUS judge; ceasing un-vetted immigration; and implementing his plan to secure America’s borders.
Add other serious issues to the above, like growing the dismal economy, increasing jobs, taxes, trade agreements, terrorism and foreign policies, and he’s got a lot on his plate right out of the gate 70 days from now (not to mention appointing competent people to cabinet positions).
I think a good gauge to watch over the next few years will be the monthly, quarterly and annual number of new firearm sales. Who knows? Unlike the current radical Marxist in the Oval Office, we might even see some manufacturers and reps blaming Trump for poor gun sales!
