Was this “record” not already surpassed during the Napoleonic Wars during the Peninsular Campaign or at Waterloo? Or during the Civil War at, say, Gettysburg or Antietem or Cold Harbor or Bull Run?
I think each of those saw more than 1000 rifle men firing more than one round per man simultaneously.
Most definitely this NRA group was surpassed during defense of almost any trenchline in WW I, or even at some of the larger pigeon shoots in town in SC when I was a boy, when everyone was invited to come to the edge of downtown and blast the flying rats into a lower population.
Perhaps this is a record sized group of riflemen solely trying to make noise, without targets or anyone shooting back at them. Then maybe, just maybe, they are the largest group to do so.
