The dumbest journalism you’ll see today. And maybe for a while
Rachel Polansky has a rather hysterical piece with this catchy title: NBC2 Investigation: Legally buying guns you can’t legally carry
I know, right? Ok, look here, hon. People buy hunting rifles. And buying a handgun doesn’t mean you’ll carry it. Reading further, I’m guessing she’s one of those people, who are often journalists, that equate permits to carry with registering or whatever. I mean, this person says some really stupid stuff:
The NBC2 Investigators have uncovered a flaw in Florida’s gun checks system.
300,000 people legally bought guns in Florida in the last four months. Only 100,000 people got their licenses to carry in the same time frame.
What does that mean for the other 200,000 people? Do they already have their licenses? Are they illegally carrying?
The NBC2 Investigators found out no one knows for sure because two different state agencies handle Floridas gun buying-and-carrying process.
Watching the video, all of the journalists are stupid. And reading the reporter’s website, wow. Being a journalist on TeeVee apparently does not require the ability to think or, you know, do some fucking journalism.

She is from Syracuse, NY and recently moved to the Gunshine State.
Carpetbaggers will carpetbag.

This is exactly the kind of sh!t reporting made for people like my idiot parents. Completely ignorant, completely self-righteous, and content to stay that way.

There’s just so much wrong with that story…
There’s zero correlation between carry license rates, and overall gun purchases. Good luck concealing a long gun in clothes that are comfortable in Florida.
There’s zero indication that the 300k guns weren’t bought by the 100k new license folks and the many more previous licensed.
Plus the bit Uncle said, about buying guns you aren’t carrying.
Plus, zero discussion of people buying multiple guns.
And finally, a totally brain dead misunderstanding about the difference between buying a gun, and having a permit to carry it concealed.
Actually I’m sure that’s not “finally”, I just gave up on her. The comments section is roundly dismissing the stupid story, too.

Frankly, this reporter, her editor, and anyone else who approved (or didn’t object to)this story, needs a full time nurse/keeper, for their own safety. Do these people walk around on the street by themselves?

Quite frankly, only the idiots in our culture gravitate towards on-camera careers.

She may be stupid but the article is not. It is societal preconditioning propaganda to normalize gun registration.
US media has not been free since WWII.

Unc, all you had to do was say “journalism”. Dumb/stupid/biased/lying are inclusive.
As for actually doing some research… C’mon now! The media maggots might discover FACTS if they did that. And we know how allergic they are to facts.

Did you know that there are 20.6 million registered automobiles in the state of Florida, but there are only 13.9 million people with drivers’ licenses?
What does that mean for the other 6.7 million cars? Do they own more than one vehicle? Are they illegally driving?
December 6th, 2016 at 11:22 pm
Wow, ‘yellow’ journalism at best…
December 6th, 2016 at 11:47 pm
You broke his site.
December 6th, 2016 at 11:55 pm
What’s really odd is the last few sentences in the piece debunk the piece itself…

Is this an example of that fake news we’ve been hearing so much about?

James Taranto of the Wall Street Journal’s Best of the Web column has therein a category for stories such as this, wherein cause and effect are inverted. He calls them “Fox Butterfield, Where Are You?” stories, after the eponymous reporter who once wrote that DESPITE more criminal incarceration, crime rates were dropping.
What the precious reporter here did is similar. DESPITE having only X number of permits, X+Y number of guns were sold. Precious. And she should be fired for either malfeasance as a reporter or a level of ignorance and incompetence that bars her from the job.

The LibCong got all the ones.

Meh, Californians do that all the time.
December 8th, 2016 at 12:10 pm
The Department of Agriculture is the agency responsible for concealed carry licensing?

“Watching the video, all of the journalists are stupid. And reading the reporter’s website, wow. Being a journalist on TeeVee apparently does not require the ability to think or, you know, do some fucking journalism.”
So this must result in a lot of “fake news” and “conspiracy theories.”

Over 1.58 million people now have Florida CCW permits, issued by the Department of Agriculture, as they also issue the Weights and Measures stamp seals for fuel dispensers. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement does the background checks for firearms purchased at an FFL. No FDLE background checks are required for private party transfers, nor is there any government reporting requirement. The FDLE by state statute may not maintain a record of the firearms background check. The Florida CCW permits are not required to purchase a weapon, keep a weapon in your home, or transport an encased weapon in your vehicle. You do not need a Florida CCW when you openly carry and hunt, fish, camp or go to/from a firing range. You need a Florida CCW to carry a weapon concealed, including firearms. 300,000 firearms sold in a four month period have absolutely nothing related to 100,000 CCW permits issued in the same four month period – apples and oranges.
The reporter was formerly from New York. They do things differently there.
