Interesting, but I guess that makes sense if you have to have the permit to carry. My permit required a picture (need picture ID to vote as well) but we don’t even need a permit to carry.

If a photo ID is not required to obtain a permit Then, how can a photo ID be required as a permit?

Pretty sure my state doesn’t require a photo ID, but I’m not 100% sure. Definitely no picture on the permit (but what do you expect for $10?)

The ruling was in fact somewhat different than what is characterized in the article. At issue is the fact that Virginia has set forth very specific forms of ID and other documentation that are required when filling out paperwork for a Concealed Handgun Permit (or CHP as it is known in Virginia – as opposed to a “concealed carry license” or some other term).
Certain clerks of the court in some jurisdictions decided to demand additional forms of identification not required by state law. In this case a citizen refused to provide the additional extralegal documentation, and the CHP was not granted. He sued, and the court found in his favor, ruling that subordinate political entities (subordinate to the state itself) cannot demand documentation in excess of that which was specified by existing state law.

So, here in Maine there’s no I.D. required to vote, and I just obtained my first concealed carry permit – passport photo required……

Having been through the Texas Concealed Handgun License acquisition process and renewal process, now called a License to Carry due to recently enacted open carry provisions added to concealed carry laws, even here in a “gun friendly” state the time and money involved is onerous, and I’d have to say, chilling to the exercise of the right to bear arms.
Fingerprints, photo, expensive training class, passing a live shooting exercise, and $$$ are involved here. If or when we get to the point of matching “Motor Voter” ease of license acquisition I’ll be a lot happier.
